Red Dragon Darts

Former World Darts Champion Adrian Lewis has told William Hill’s new YouTube show, Club 501, that he should not be counted out of a return to Tour darts this year, hinting at a potential attempt at qualifying for this year’s World Darts Championship.

Speaking on William Hill’s YouTube show, Club 501, hosted by darts pundit and commentator Wayne Mardle, Lewis said: “Jason Thame asked me if I wanted to take part in the MODUS Series and I was a bit apprehensive but I told him that we’d give it a go next year.

I’m going to do plenty of exhibitions and corporates with them and once I’ve done the series next year I’ll see where I’m at with my game. If I’m enjoying it then I’ll look to keep it going and go to Q School.

“Don’t write me off for any Tour events this year. I was fishing with Barry Hearn and I told him that I might have a go at the World Darts Championship qualifiers this year. It was never my intention to put the darts away forever in the first place, that’s why I said I was taking a break rather than retiring. There was always a possibility that I’d come back.”

I lost the hunger I needed to succeed

In April 2022 Lewis announced that he would be taking a break from darts and in speaking to Mardle he outlined his reasons for doing so, explaining that he had lost his hunger for competing in the sport as well as having to put his family first.

“There were a few reasons behind me choosing to take a break from darts,” said Lewis. “One was that I didn’t have the hunger that I knew I needed if I wanted to succeed. There is also a lot going on with my family and there are more important things in this world than darts.

“I’ll still have to juggle those things if I do come back because they’re not going anywhere, but you can learn to deal with them.”
