1988 - 185: Darts On TV Under Threat!

DESPITE the efforts made, to smarten up the game, it seems that some at the TV companies were none too fond of darts as a TV spectacle. Greg Dyke seems to gave made up his mind here:

In hindsight it does seem strange that a sport that was very popular, and relatively inexpensive to screen, was so easily dismissed by the powers that be.
Could Eric have been correct? Was it really all about snobbery?
The Crafty Cockney was certainly correct about sattelite and cable TV picking it up.
