1997 - Issue 296: Sponsorship Ban. Darts Under Threat?

Not for the last time darts were facing a tough financial time when restrictions upon sponsorship were introduced. This time it was Tabacco but the general issue continues right up to today, with many fearing betting sponsorships will come under the microscope:

It does not appear that the campaign to 'Save Our Embassy' was a great success. Luckily the event itself was successful and could be almost entirely self-funded. Andy Fordham went on to be the first BDO World Champion to raise the trophy without Embassy ribbons or signs in the background.

One cannot help but wonder what would happen if darts were sponsored by Vegan Superfoods Ltd?
