RICHIE Burnett, the 1995 Worlds Darts champion, has joined the nascent World Seniors Darts tour. The Welshman has been competing on the PDC's Challenge Tour and in the Modus Live League after slipping out of the PDC's top rank.

But the fan-favorite has been been in very good form and could be a real threat to Phil Taylor and the other Icons already signed up. The 54-year-old averaged over 109 in a recent match vs Robert Thornton. Burnett has regular high-level competition and may relish the opportunity to go head-to-head once more with many of his old foes.

The field for the initial event in 2022 is filling up rapidly with only three invitational places remaining. Phil Taylor, Keith Deller, Bob Anderson, Martin Adams, John Walton, Wayne Warren, John Lowe, Dennis Priestley, Ted Hankey, and Andy Fordham all confirmed for the inaugural staging. additional places may come from a seniors Q School or if one or more of the initial names are unable to take part.
