Modern Amateur Darts better known as MAD have marked their first year in full operation by announcing that they are to be sanctioned by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA).
MAD join their fellow nascent amateur organisation the UKDA who came under the DRA's banner in April. The DRA will be delighted to ensure that all the major organisations fall under their auspices as it is one of their key aims. The PDC have long associated themselves with the DRA for purposes of rules, disciplinary matters, and drug testing policies etc.
MAD is clearly expanding their horizons as they celebrate their first annual landmark. A rash of recent ambassadorial and director-level appointments include some of the biggest names in darts. Vincent van de Voort is to oversee their European affairs and Michael Van Gerwen has also taken up a high-level place.
Together with the announcement of several overseas tournaments and more announcements in the pipeline it is clear that MAD will not suffer from the insular personality of previous amateur associations based in the UK. Chairman Steve Brown's associations with Gibraltar and his experiences with European JDC ventures will enable them to spread their wing quickly.
