Pearson backs Duzza to return
By Editorial Staff 26/04/2021
"I’d like to start by openly sending a message of support to Glen Durrant and put on record that he has my full backing"
Durrant, the three-time World champion, contracted Covid-19 last Autumn and has struggled to regain the full force of his game. But Pearson is convinced that the 2020 Unibet Premier League winner will recover and get back to winning ways:
"You don’t suddenly become a bad player overnight, I am sure Glen has the faith in his own ability to realise just how good he is. I certainly hope so."
The consecutive matches have compounded Duzza's difficulties as he has been denied even the usual seven-day gap between rounds to gain much-needed recovery time. Instead, the matches came thick and fast and the reigning champion didn't register a single win from his first 9 games, resulting in his elimination from this year's event.
Pearson sees this as compounding an already tough ask:
"....when I first started working on the Premier League, Eric Bristow described it as ruthless..... But with the tournament, this year being held on consecutive nights, for Glen to try and recover in the current format must have been incredibly difficult. "
With the 2021 season only partially underway Darts World columnist Pearson sees plenty of opportunities for the Teeside man to turn things around:
" .....What I do know of Glen is that he is an extremely popular character, has a great management team by his side, and is loved and respected by so many in the game. I sincerely hope he starts winning darts matches again soon."
It would take a callous darts fan to disagree with Nigel.
