Taylor plays down comeback chances

PHIL Taylor has opted to sign a new long-term contract with his current manufacturer Target Darts. The Power has not committed to a return to professional competitive action but has mused about a crack at the UK Open. The manufacturer who has supplied Taylor since 2014 spoke to the 16-time Champion of the World:

"I would never go anywhere else anyway - it was either Target or nobody," said Taylor

The darts legend was speaking on the eve of the latest Target product launch, more generations of his signature are certain to be forthcoming. The Stoke-on-Trent man added:

"I always think it's a bit like Formula One: you may have the best car in the world, but you won't have next year so you have to alter it a little bit.

"It's about being up to date. You're always striving for perfection -  Garry Plummer is brilliant for it; he backs me 100% and he wants perfection as well. You cannot get better."

'The Power' continued the conversation and discussed Raymond van Barneveld's return though playing down his own prospects of a return.

"That was unbelievable," he added. "He's done brilliantly, but for me to come back? - no. I'm enjoying my life at the minute; I'm enjoying being at home.

"Maybe if my new darts are spot-on, I could try the UK Open."

Taylor has teased a UK Open comeback before. He claimed to have only halted a previous attempt due to needing surgery in the weeks leading up to the amateur qualifiers that are the usual, non-Covid, route into the event.
