DARREN Webster regained his PDC Tour Card on Thursday, after coming through Day 2 of the Final Stage of UK Q School, as Brian Raman won a two-year Tour Card for the first time at European Q School, with the action continuing in Milton Keynes and Niedernhausen.
Day 1 of the Final Stage of Q School saw James Wilson and Jose Justicia regain their Tour Cards in the UK and Europe respectively, as players continue to battle it out for automatic Tour Cards or ones via the Order of Merit.
UK Q School
2x PDC World Championship Quarter Finalist, Darren Webster, who lost his Tour Card at the end of 2021, regained it back on Day 2, as he came through six matches to reach the decider, in recording victories over Niall Culleton, Stu Wilson, Kai Fan Leung, Mike Warburton, Shaun Griffiths and Ted Evetts, to set up a clash with Scott Waites in the final.
The decider began with Waites taking the opener in 19 darts, before Webster took cruise control, in rattling off six legs on the spin, in 17,18,15,14,12 and 15 darts respectively, to take the tie, 6-1, and to join James Wilson back on the PDC Pro Tour for at least the next two years.
Former BDO World Champion and Grand Slam Champion Scott Waites continued his bid to regain his Tour Card, by recording victories over Steve Brown, Liam Meek, Richie Burnett, Conor Heneghan, Dan Read and Jamie Clark to reach the final, as he sits on 5 points on the Order of Merit going into Day 3.
European Q School
Belgium’s Brian Raman came from behind to pick up a Two-Year Tour Card for the first time on Day 2, as he reached the final by recording victories over Carlo Van Peer, Maikel Mossou, Ronny Huybrechts, Radek Szaganski, Kai Gotthardt and Kevin Doets, to set up a clash with North America’s Jules Van Dongen.
The decider began with Van Dongen taking complete control, by racing into a 4-0 lead, with winning legs in 17,17,18 and 15 darts respectively, leaving Raman needing to win six of the remaining seven legs to keep his hopes alive of winning an automatic Tour Card on Day 2. The Belgian did so in completing a remarkable comeback, in winning six on the spin, finishing with a 17 dart hold to take the tie and join his fellow countrymen Dimitri Van den Bergh, Kim Huybrechts, Mike De Decker and Geert De Vos on the PDC Pro Tour.
Van Dongen’s run to the final saw him record victories over Stefaan Henderyck, Erik Tautfest, Rowby-John Rodriguez, Patrick Maat, Patrick Van den Boogaard and Lukas Wenig, as he sits level with Mario Vandenbogaerde, the finalist on Day 1, on 7 points, with the pair looking set to pick up Tour Cards for the first time in their careers.
PDC Q School continues on Friday, in the UK and in Europe, with Day Three of the Final Stage with 1 automatic Tour Card up for grabs at each Q School, with play commencing at 12:00 CET in Europe and 12:00 GMT in the UK. All live scores and results can be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com
