The darting action makes its way to Liverpool for the second night of the premier league darts. Last week certainly didn’t fail for entertainment with some high-quality arrows thrown in Cardiff which included a 113.02 average from current world champion Peter Wright.
Wright defeated Jonny Clayton in the final which saw the Scotsman pick up the £10,000 prize and go top of the table.
The World Champion will be on stage first in Liverpool tonight as he takes on Michael van Gerwen in a best of eleven leg affair. Wright also won the second ProTour event at the weekend so will be going to Liverpool with sky high confidence.
Van Gerwen will be looking for a bounce back after last weeks 6-4 defeat to Gary Anderson. The Green Machine pulled out of the worlds this year due to a positive covid test and has struggled to find the form that has him three world titles so far in 2022.
Like Van Gerwen, world number one Gerwyn Price is hunting down his first win of the premier league after losing in his hometown last week to James Wade. Price is yet to win the Premier League and will be hoping to get his first win of the campaign as he faces Gary Anderson in Liverpool, who reached the semi-finals last week.
Michael Smith and Jonny Clayton will meet in the second match of the night in Merseyside. Smith and Clayton were involved in arguably one of the games of the tournament at the World Championships in December and January which Smith won 4-3 in sets.
Clayton reached the final in his homeland last week losing to Peter Wright in the final, however “the ferret” still comes into Liverpool currently second in the league and will want to win in order to boost his chances of reclaiming his premier league crown back.
Smith like van Gerwen and Price failed to make it past the quarters last week as he missed out to Peter Wright so will be looking to kick start his premier league campaign off after missing out on the competition last year.
The other match the tournament has to offer will see an all-English affair as world number four, James Wade takes on premier league debutant Joe Cullen in the remaining quarter final.
Cullen is yet to win a match in the premier league after losing in his debut match last week against Jonny Clayton.
Wade, in reaching the semi final last week, managed to defeat Gerwyn Price in the quarter finals before losing to Clayton in the semi.
The Aldershot born darting star currently sits fourth in the league coming into night 2.
Action gets underway at 7pm tonight as the eight players once more battle it out for the £10,000 prize fund and the five points to boost their chances of making the play offs come June.
