Hello, again readers. I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year. Hopefully, we will get back to normality very soon. Visiting continental Europe regularly, despite the restrictions, shows just how popular our great game is becoming and how fast it is progressing.
On a professional level, it’s fabulous to be getting bookings again, some that were delayed because of the pandemic, some new ones, and also returning for repeat events. One such event was my 5th presentation evening for the Wadsworth Darts League in the Devizes area.
This time I was joined by “The Artist” Kevin Painter. As you might imagine after seeing him at the World Seniors Kevin was in superb form on and off the board. Some great darts were thrown and a lot of welcome fun was had with the locals.
The following week I was on duty at the O2 Academy in Oxford for another University darts event in front of about 300 enthusiastic students. I have a few more such events upcoming in Cardiff, Reading, Bath and Bristol. Also, by the time you read this, I will have once again refereed the Loughborough University Darts finals.
I would also like to congratulate Robert Thornton on his success in the World Seniors Championships, unlucky to Martin Adams in the final. It was great to see all those legends gracing the stage at the iconic Circus Tavern.
We must all hope that the WDF Lakeside event is not further delayed for any reason and that all of the darts, especially UK-based, will return to as near normal as possible within a few weeks.
The launch of the ADC is intriguing. I have long enjoyed Open events and have called the final stages of many over the last few years ( often after getting knocked out in an earlier round!) Many feel that they are hugely important for players to hone their skills, and learn the winning habit, and for venues to secure additional income. The initial reports are very good and I can’t wait to attend an ADC accredited event and see how it all works.
Stay safe and see you at an event soon!
