Beau Blasts to World Title

Beau Greaves won her very first World Championship beating Kirsty Hutchinson 4-0 in the final which saw the 18-year-old only drop one leg in the entire match.

Beau and Arrow also recorded the highest average of anyone on the final day, winning with the third highest recorded by a woman on the Lakeside stage hitting a 92.05 average.

Beau said to Darts World after her win: “I feel amazing, no one can take it away from me, I’m a world champion and that is with me for life. Theirs no better feeling in the world than this.”

5^th Seed Greaves took off from where she left off in her Semi Final with Lorraine Winstanley and broke throw in the first set with a 128 check out on double ten to take a 2-0 lead.

Beau and Arrow won the first set and continued to cause Hutchinson problems in the match including an average of 134.64 in winning the second leg of the second set after Hutchinson won her only leg of the match on the madhouse with her second dart.

Greaves hit 41 on double sixteen with her first dart to level at 1-1 before a score of 165 followed by double ten on her second dart gave the Doncaster darting sensation a 2-0 lead in the Final.

“I knew what I had to do when I got on there, if I get in front then she will have to chase me the whole game and I knew that. I was playing well, and it got to the halfway point of the second set, and I thought come on push forward and go off into the second break and just chill.”

She returned to the stage and won her second set of the final without reply from her opponent, breaking throw in the second leg of the third set after both players hit back-to-back maximums on the oche. With opponent Hutchinson back on 112, Greaves stepped up to the oche and hit double 16 with her second dart to go within a set of victory.

Greaves went on to storm the final on the Lakeside stage, taking just 37 minutes to beat Hutchinson in the final and broke throw straight away in the fourth set after hitting double four with her first dart, before sealing her very first World Title as she hit tops to win the cheque of £25,000 and the WDF World Championship Women’s Trophy.

Greaves was full of admiration for opponent Kirsty Hutchinson who provided some memorable moments at Lakeside throughout the week, including her impressive win over Rhian O’Sullivan on Saturday in the Semi Finals.

“I know Kirsty can play better; she will have to build on that, but we all know how good Kirsty is. She said I played well, I looked over to her and she looked at me as if to say what can I do. There’s no one else I would have wanted to play, she’s a good friend and an amazing person”

Greaves was one of the tournament favourites before a dart was thrown and showed high levels of maturity throughout the entire week dropping just one set in the whole competition to Veronica Ihasz in her second-round match. Her finishing and her scoring power was too much for her opponents especially in the final, with a bright future in store for the 18-year-old.
