Michael van Gerwen raced out of the blocks in his match with Joe Cullen, a repeat of the Premier Final which the Dutchman won last month. MVG included an 85 checkout to break throw in the opening leg before an 82 out in the next for an early 2-0 lead in Blackpool.
The Winmau man blew his English opponent away breaking him in the fifth leg to lead 4-1 at the first break. The three-time World Champion continued causing problems, crucially breaking again in the eleventh leg on double ten to give himself breathing space in the match.

His most crucial though came in the tenth leg, levelling the match at 5-5 on double nineteen to finish 118 and break the throw for the second time. The Aldershot man would go on to break again on double twelve in the twelfth leg and lead 7-5 really putting the former UK Open champion under the cosh.
Aspinall certainly thrived recovering to win six of the last eight legs including an 82 checkout to break and lead 9-8, before ending the match on 81 hitting double sixteen with his last dart in hand to seal an 11-9 victory reaching the Quarter Finals again in the Matchplay.

The 2020 champion produced a brilliant 146 checkout on double sixteen after hitting two treble nineteens to seal his eleventh and final leg, despite the Austrian showman trying to sway the crowd towards his side with his showboat shots. The Belgian will meet Peter Wright on Thursday in a repeat of last year’s Final in what should be a blockbuster tie in the World Matchplay.
