WDF World Masters Update

Red Dragon Darts

Amongst the many rumours and counter rumours, surrounding the 2023 World Championships and other events, the World Darts Federation have announced further information on the 2022 WDF World Masters, WDF World Open and WDF World Championship Qualifiers 

The three events being hosted at the Bonte Wever in Assen between Thursday 8 and Monday 12 December:

With two tournaments offering prize money of over €40.000 and twelve places up for grabs at the 2023 WDF World Championships it’s sure to be a fabulous five days of darting drama!

Entry to all tournaments is open NOW and will close on Sunday 4 December – read on for all the details!

Prize Money

The WDF World Masters and World Open offer combined prize money of over €40.000 whilst the World Championship qualifiers will see the top four men, two women, four boys and two girls qualify for the 2023 World Championships, with each then guaranteed a minimum of £1,000 in prize money as first round losers.

Tournament Entries

Entry to all tournaments is open NOW and will close on Sunday 4 December. Players must enter all tournaments they wish to play in, including the World Masters and can only enter tournaments online, HERE

World Masters Tournament Entry

Entry to the World Masters is by invitation only and is free to play for all invitees.
Qualification criteria for the WDF World Masters can be found here:

A full list of the players that have qualified can be found in the links below and now include those players that have qualified through their position in the Main and Regional Ranking Tables as of Monday 3 October 2022. Those players are detailed in bold text.

World Open Tournament Entry

The World Open is open to all players with entry fees as follows:
For Men and Women €25
For Boys and Girls €10

Note: Players must be under 18 on Sunday 11 December 2022 to enter the Boys or Girls World Open tournaments.

2023 World Championship Qualifier Tournament Entry

Dates for the 2023 WDF World Championships will be confirmed once finalised between the WDF and the already agreed broadcaster.

The World Championship Qualifiers are open to all players that have not already qualified for the 2023 World Championships:

For Men and Women entry is €35
For Boys and Girls entry is €15

Note:
Players must be under 18 on Sunday 1 January 2023 to enter the Boys or Girls World Championship Qualifiers.

Youth Player Entries
Players playing in the Youth World Masters tournaments will not be able to participate in the Men’s or Women’s World Open tournaments.

Youth players will not be able to play in the Boy’s or Girl’s World Open tournaments if they are involved in the knockout stages of the Men’s and Women’s World Masters.

Any youth player that enters a tournament that they subsequently cannot take part in will have their entry fee returned.

Tournament Registration

In order to play in any of the above tournaments, players must register at the Registration Desk at the Bonte Wever.

All Boys and Girls will be asked to provide proof of age when registering for Boys and Girls tournaments.

World Masters Tournament Registration

Men and Women register on the evening of Wednesday 7 December or on the morning of Thursday 8 December.

Boys and Girls register on the evening of Friday 9 December or on the morning of Saturday 10 December.

World Open Tournament Registration

Exact registration timings will follow nearer to the tournament.

World Championship Qualifier Tournament Registration

Men and Women register on the evening of Sunday 11 December on the morning of Monday 12 December.

Boys and Girls register on the evening of Saturday 10 December or on the morning of Sunday 11 December.

Group Stages – Best of 7
Knockout Stages through to and including Last 16 – Best of 7
Knockout Stages for final stages to be confirmed

World Open Playing Format

All tournaments are straight knockout
Through to and including semi-finals – Best of 7
Finals – Best of 9

World Championship Qualifiers Playing Format

All tournaments are straight knockout

Last 16 – Best of 9

Top four players qualify for 2023 WDF World Championships

Playing rules for all tournaments are in accordance with the WDF Playing and Tournament Rules and WDF Ranking System Criteria.

Travel News

The nearest airport to Assen is Groningen – around 25km from the venue.

Amsterdam Schiphol airport will be the choice for many players. From Schiphol, players should take a train to Assen. The cost is around €25 each way and trains leave Amsterdam airport (which is situated within the airport), roughly every 30 minutes. The train journey is two hours.

One arriving at Assen station, players can take a taxi to the Bonte Wever or to their hotel. The taxi journey to the Bonte Wever is around €12.
