Raymond Smith was victorious on Saturday as he crowned the winner of Week 7 at the Modus Super Series.
The Australian defeated Peter Jacques in the final to secure a place in Champions Week and bag the weekly £5,000 1st prize.
Smith, who entered the finale having won Group A earlier in the week, won just one of his group phase matches, as he lost his opener against Adam Atkinson, before going on to defeat Peter Jacques to progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against Dylan Slevin, and defeated the Irish youngster 4-2 to book his place in the final.
In the decider, Smith came up against Peter Jacques for the second time on the night, who’d defeated Ben Robb in the previous round, and once again the Aussie thrower got the better of Jacques, by defeating him 4-1 to take the Week 7 crown, seal his place in Champions Week and pick up the £5,000 weekly 1st prize.
The Guru’s return to trip the UK is off to a much better start than last year. Although both Ray and his son Ky performed well on the first visits to the Palace logogistics hadn’t gone smoothly.
A £5,000 check, and a week or so in Portsmouth to settle in, before heading to this year’s event will surely help ease any financial pressures.
The Modus Super Series returns on Monday with the start of Week 8, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with the field to be announced in due course.
Play will commence from 9:30am GMT and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Sporty Stuff TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
