The Cazoo 2023 World Darts Championship enters the Quarter Final stage on New Year’s Day, with history set to be made as Gabriel Clemens becomes the first German player to appear in the Last 8, facing Gerwyn Price for a spot in the Semi-Finals at the Alexandra Palace.
The World Number 1 has only dropped two sets so far in this year’s competition, coming through matches against Luke Woodhouse, Raymond van Barneveld, and Jose de Sousa in the Last 16 last Thursday.
The Red Dragon star is on the hunt for his second World Title, beating Gary Anderson 7-3 in the Final of the 2021 competition where the famous venue was closed to spectators due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
The Welshman will be as hungry as ever to get his hands on the Sid Waddell trophy for a second time, but this time with a packed Alexandra Palace watching on come January 3rd.
He faces a difficult prosect in the German Giant tonight, with the many German fans expected in North London to cheer their number 1 player on.

The World Number 25 whitewashed William O’Connor in the Second Round, before clinching a last set decider against Jim Williams in the L32, having trailed 3-2 at one stage on the oche.
Clemens defeated Alan Soutar 4-1 in the Last 16, including a fantastic 148 checkout where he found two treble eighteens and double tops, to go within a leg of the match against Soots. The German will go into his most difficult test tonight but is well known for causing an upset on the world stage, after beating Peter Wright 4-3 back in 2021, with Snakebite the defending champion at the time.
Dimitri van den Bergh and Michael Smith are the first two players through to the Semi Finals, having won their Quarter Final matches in the afternoon session. The reigning Grand Slam champion fended off a spirited Stephen Bunting, who despite 14 180s exits the tournament with the World Number 4 impressing on his doubles recording a checkout rate of 47.06%, winning 5-3 at the Ally Pally.
2020 Matchplay champion Van den Bergh becomes the first Belgian international through to a Semi Final of a World Championship, beating Jonny Clayton 5-3 as he prepares to meet the winner of Michael van Gerwen or Chris Dobey, who clash in the last Quarter Final of tonight’s evening session.
The action will commence from 7:30pm live on Sky Sports with the World Number 1 and the German Number 1, first up on the world stage.
