Towe’s Take – UKDA Weekend 6: Yorkshire Storm To The Summit

Red Dragon Darts

A massive 31-5 home win over Kent has seen Yorkshire take over pole position in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League.

With 11-1 and 10-2 wins for the respective men’s ‘A’ and B’ sides plus 4-2 and 6-0 for the ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams Yorkshire have taken their points tally to 149 and have a lead of four over previous leaders Lancashire who had a close 19-17 win away to Leicestershire. As a result of their big defeat Kent drop two places in the divisional table to bottom with 84 points, four fewer than the team just above them Cheshire and five short of Glamorgan and safety.

Although Lincolnshire narrowly lost out to Lancashire they did play what was their outstanding rearranged number one fixture away to Cheshire which they won 25-11 to take them up into third place in the table on 136 points. Hampshire were previously second but dropped two places to fourth after their 22-14 defeat at Staffordshire.

Both Essex and Warwickshire won their respective ties against Cornwall (20-16) and Glamorgan (24-12) but they both dropped one place in the table, Essex to fifth with 128 points and Warwickshire sixth having one point fewer 127.

Top player in the game six fixtures was Warwickshire’s Jamie Hughes who in his game against Glamorgan’s Keirion Carter had a straight 4-0 win chalked up winning legs of 12,13,18 and 14 darts to give him a fantastic 35.16 average.

The Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship‘s top two teams hold on to their positions, Dorset adding a 24-12 home win over Berkshire to their account to take their points to 136 while second-placed Cleveland was held to an 18-18 draw away to Cambridgeshire to leave them nine points short of the leaders. As a result of their defeat Berkshire drop from third to fifth in the division trailing the leaders by some twenty-one points and replacing at number three is Hertfordshire, their 24-12 home success over Gwynedd taking them up to 125 points, eleven off the top but only to behind Cleveland.

It’s as you were for the top three teams in L Style Division One as leaders Derbyshire accounted for their hosts West Midlands with a 20-16 scoreline giving them a total of 147 points five more than second-placed Suffolk who had a 22-14 success playing away against Merseyside and making up the top three is Buckinghamshire whose 21-15 win at Leicestershire leaves them twenty-three fewer than Derbyshire with 124 points.

The big question in Division Two is will anyone catch Black Country who after gaining promotion from the third division last season are riding high at the top of the table with 146 points after adding their latest 22-14 win away to Nottinghamshire. West of England have lost their second place and drop to fourth after suffering a somewhat surprising 19-17 defeat away to Clwyd who prior to the fixture were, with 92 points just two places off the foot of the table and some eleven points behind their visitors. Taking over in second place is Tyne and Wear who had a 23-13 home win over Norfolk which sees them move up one place in the table while their opponents drop two places to next to bottom with 108 points. Wiltshire made the biggest leap in the division their 24-12 home win against bottom-of-the-division Gloucestershire seeing them go from sixth to third, their 124 points leaving them just four short of Tyne and Wear but 22 fewer than Black Country.

It’s all change at the top of Division Three as former leaders Northamptonshire were held to an 18-18 draw at Pembrokeshire and as a result dropped to second place with 134 points, only two short of new leaders Middlesex but in addition to their two points lead Middlesex also have a game in hand. The latest round of fixtures saw Middlesex play a home tie with third in the division Shropshire, the result was a close 19-17 win for the home side and although Shropshire lost they hold on to third place, however prior to the game they were just four points off the top of the division, they are now eight points behind their hosts and have played one game more than them.
