Grundy and Crabtree Claim Challenge Tour Titles

Robert Grundy and Cam Crabtree were victorious on Saturday, in winning Challenge Tour Events 17 & 18 respectively, as the fourth weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season continuing in Milton Keynes.

Grundy, who recently appeared on the PDC Pro Tour for the first time, reached the final of Event 17 by recording victories against Carl Beattie, Harry Lane, Jenson Walker, Moreno Blom, Arjan Konterman, Vitezslav Sedlak and Owen Bates, to set up a clash with Christian Kist.

The final began with Kist taking the opener in 17 darts, before Grundy charged in front by rattling off four consecutive legs in a total of 62 darts to move 4-1 ahead and within one of victory. Kist did pull one leg back, before Grundy sealed the victory in Leg Seven with a 24-dart break of throw to defeat the Former Lakeside Champion and pick up a maiden PDC title.

In Event 18, Cam Crabtree was victorious, with the teenager continuing his impressive run of form, as he reached the final by recording victories against Dave Bayton, Chas Barstow, Charlie Symons, Andy Hamilton, David Wawrzewski, Marcel Erba and Jarred Cole, to set up a clash with Switzerland’s Stefan Bellmont.

The final began with the pair breaking each other’s throw in the opening two legs, before Crabtree rattled off three successive legs in a total of 46 darts to move within one of victory and leaving his Swiss opponent needing to win four straight legs to keep his title hopes alive. Bellmont did pull one leg back, before Crabtree sealed a 5-2 victory with a 17-dart break of throw to pick up a 2^nd Challenge Tour title of the year.

The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour weekend concludes on Sunday with Event 19 taking place in Leicester as play commences from 10:00 BST, with all live scores and results to be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com
