Boulton and Sedlak Bag Wigan Titles

Vitezslav Sedlak and Andy Boulton were victorious on Sunday, in winning Challenge Tour Events 22 & 23, as the final weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season continued in Wigan.

In Event 23, Andy Boulton was victorious, with the Scotsman reaching the final firstly by recording victories against Paul Mitchell, Carl Beattie, Vitezslav Sedlak, Romeo Grbavac, James Howard Hughes and Scott Mitchell, to set up a clash with England’s Owen Bates.

The final began with Bates racing into a 2-0 lead, before Boulton fort back by winning back-to-back legs in a total of 32 darts to square the match up at 2apiece. The pair then held throw for the following two legs, before Boulton crucially broke Bates’ throw in Leg Seven with a 16 darter to move within one of victory. However, the Englishman immediately broke back in the following leg, with a 12 darter to send the tie all the way. Multiple visits without hitting a treble proved to be costly for Bates, as Boulton pinned a 13 darter in the decider to seal a 5-4 victory and pick up a 2nd Challenge Tour title of the year.

Czech player Sedlak, who’s appeared twice on the PDC European Tour in 2023, had earlier reached the final of Event 22 by recording victories against Sean Fisher, Alan Norris, Wayne Morgan, Kurt Parry, Mike Warburton and Arjan Konterman, to set up a clash with Scotland’s John Henderson.

Henderson did pull one leg back, before Sedlak sealed the victory in Leg Seven with a 15 darter to pick up a maiden PDC title and deny Henderson the chance of winning a second title of the weekend, following his success at Saturday’s Event 20.

The final began with the pair holding throw in the opening two legs, before Sedlak charged infront, by rattling off three consecutive legs in a total of 58 darts to move 4-1 ahead and within one of victory.

Heading into the final day, Dutchman Berry Van Peer has already secured top spot on the Order of Merit and sealed his place at the Grand Slam of Darts, The World Darts Championship and a PDC Tour Card for 2024/25. The second spot on the Order of Merit is currently held by John Henderson, with Owen Bates, Andy Boulton and Cam Crabtree just below him, as the four protagonists do battle to seal a spot at the World Championship and a two-year Tour Card.

The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour season concludes on Monday with Event 24 taking place in Leicester as play commences from 10:00 GMT, with all live scores and results to be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com
