Major Qualifications Settled As Chizzy Wins Completes Floor Season

Dave Chisnall picked up his fifth PDC title of the year on Thursday, after an 8-4 victory against Jim Williams in the final of Players Championship 30 in Barnsley, as the PDC Pro Tour season came to a close at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Chisnall, who lost out in the final of Wednesday’s PC29, went a step further 24 hours later, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Jeffrey Sparidaans, Dylan Slevin, Steve Lennon, Jamie Hughes, Scott Waites and Gian Van Veen, to set up a clash with Williams.

The final began with Williams taking the opener in 21 darts, before Chisnall rattled off six consecutive legs to move 6-1 ahead and within two of victory. Williams went on to create a slight fightback, by winning three of the following four legs, before Chisnall sealed the victory in Leg 12 with a 15 darter and an 8-4 success to pick up a 2^nd Players Championship title of the year.

Williams’ run to a first PDC final since his maiden title victory back in March 2022 saw the Welshman record victories on the day against Luc Peters, Kim Huybrechts, Josh Rock, Mario Vandenbogaerde, Danny Noppert and Damon Heta, before being denied by Chisnall.

Elsewhere, there were Quarter Final runs for World Champion Michael Smith and Non Tour-Card Holder Cam Crabtree, whilst the likes of Peter Wright, Dimitri Van den Bergh and James Wade were amongst the high profile first round casualties. The day also saw a Nine Dart Leg hit by Ricky Evans in his first-round victory against Callan Rydz in what could be the final one ever hit at the Barnsley Metrodome, with the venue not scheduled to feature during the 2024 PDC Calendar.

The day saw the 64-player field for the Players Championship Finals be confirmed, with Former World Champion Gerwyn Price heading to Butlins Minehead as the Number One Seed, after a successful Pro Tour campaign, which saw him pick up Four Players Championship victories. Places were also secured at the World Darts Championship via the Pro Tour Order of Merit, with the last chance for Tour Card Holders who missed out being at the PDPA Qualifier on November 27^th.
