Jim McEwan was victorious on Saturday as he crowned the winner of Champions Week at the Modus Super Series, after defeating Mareno Michels in the final and picking himself up a record £20,000 in prize money.
McEwan, who entered the finale having won Group C on Thursday, began the night by winning just one of his group phase matches, as he lost his opener to Mareno Michels, before defeating Darryl Pilgrim to progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against Andreas Harrysson. McEwan defeated the Swede, 4-2, to book his place in the final.
In the decider, McEwan came up against Mareno Michels for the second time on the night, and this time, ‘Chucky’ got his revenge against his Dutch opponent, as he whitewashed Michels, 4-0, to seal the Series Five crown and join a roll honour of Champions Week winners at the Super Series, which includes Conan Whitehead, Raymond Smith and Luke Littler.
The Modus Super Series returns on Monday with the start of Week One of Series Six, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with the field including Thibault Tricole, Harry Ward and William Borland.
Play will commence from 9:30am GMT and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Sporty Stuff TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
