You Bet: Back to the Palace

Red Dragon Darts

The festive period for sports fans means one thing, especially if you fancy a festive flutter, – Darts!

With the PDC World Darts Championships starting on Saturday, BetMGM are offering a whole range of odds ahead of the fun at Alexandra Palace. Hopefully, this can add to any of your content around the hotly-anticipated tournament this month – there’s some commentary from our UK director.

All eyes are on who claims the title on January 3rd – and Luke Humphries is leading the way as favourite, priced at 3/1 after his three major titles since October. Michael Van Gerwen, on the lookout for a fourth world title, is second favourite at 7/2 with Gerwyn Price sitting just behind at 11/2.

Reigning champ Michael Smith produced an all-time classic in last year’s final against Van Gerwen – and that match-up is 16/1 to be the deciding match this time around. The favourite to contest the final are Price and Humphries at 8/1. It may well all come down to the last dart on the night – and it’s 11/4 for a double 20 to win the tournament.

Fans get most excited by the big moments, with everyone clambering to see a rare nine-dart finish. It’s 4/1 for there to be over 2.5 nine-darters in the tournament as a whole, while over 890.5 total 180s during the championship is 5/4.

Our resident official and bookies terror, John Fowler, rates Rob Cross as the most mispriced player in the draw at 16/1.

Commenting ahead of the weekend’s action, UK Director at BetMGM, Sam Behar, said:

“There’s nothing we love more at Christmas than the darts – it’s the ultimate blend of sport and entertainment. Luke Humphries has had an amazing few months – and we’re seeing a lot of backing for him to continue his rich vein of form and claim the title. What a story that would be! He’s our favourite as it stands, but you can never rule out Van Gerwen – he’s not far behind.

“We can’t wait to see the excitement unfold, and look forward to entertaining our customers throughout the tournament – whether they’re in fancy dress at Alexandra Palace or on the edge of their sofas at home.”
