Q-School Baetens Battles Through

A further 16 players, including Fallon Sherrock, Andy Baetens and Andy Hamilton progressed through to the Final Stage of their respective Q Schools on Tuesday, as Stage One continued in Milton Keynes and Kalkar, Germany. 

Day One of 2024 PDC Qualifying School saw the likes of Danny Lauby, Stefan Bellmont and Adam Hunt progress through to the Final Stage outright, with Wednesday being the final opportunity for players to secure their place, either automatically, or via their respective Order of Merit’s.   

European Q School  

Recently crowned WDF World Champion, Andy Baetens, was the standout performer from the eight automatic qualifiers that made it through to the Final Stage of European Q School on Day Two, with the Belgian star recording victories against Roberto Vandaele, Pascal De Clercq, Wim Hofsink, Mareno Michels, Patrick Geeraets and Miroslaw Grudziecki in his Last 16 decider, as he dropped just six legs across the day.  

Former Tour Card Holder Ron Meulenkamp continued his bid to regain his professional tour status, with ‘The Bomb’ recording victories against Moritz Schwarzbach, Daniel Barborak, Davyd Venken, Jiri Brejcha, Luc Bogaert and Benjamin Pratnemer in his decider.  

Elsewhere, the remaining six automatic qualifiers consisted of Liam Maendl-Lawrence, Roman Benecky and Pal Szekely, who have all previous competed on the PDC European Tour, as well as Croatia’s Romeo Grbavac, Holland’s Angelo Balsamo and Germany’s Paul Krohne.  

UK Q School  

‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock headlined the eight automatic qualifiers that made it through to the Final Stage of UK Q School on Day Two, as she recorded victories on the day against David Davies, Ryan Hogarth, Adrian Gray, Paul Redfern and Brett Claydon in her deciding Last 16 tie, as she bids to become just the second ladies’ player in history to win a PDC Tour Card, after Lisa Ashton’s success at 2020 Q School. 

Former World Darts Championship Finalist Andy Hamilton was another high-profile name to progress through to the Final Stage, with ‘The Hammer’ recording victories against Kevin Mills, Stuart Wares, Joe Croft, Adam Paxton and Thomas Lovely, as he bids to regain his professional tour status.  

Elsewhere, Former Tour Card Holder Chris Quantock and Former Development Tour Event winner Shane McGuirk were amongst the eight qualifiers who made it through at the Marshall Arena, with the remaining four players consisting of English Trio; Charlie Martin, Jamie Atkins and Patrik Williams, as well as Welshman Kevin Lane.  

PDC Qualifying School continues on Wednesday, in the UK and in Europe, with the final 16 automatic spots up for grabs, with the remaining spots to be offered out via the Order of Merit’s across both fields to make-up a 128-player field for the Final Stage commencing on Thursday.
