First Stop: Cardiff!

Red Dragon Darts

The Preeminent Darting Roadshow is once again upon us as we prepare for the introduction of the 2024 PDC Premier League, starting at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff.

The Premier League welcomes 2 new debutants: The World Championship Finalists, with Luke Humphries and Luke Littler making their first appearances against each other.

We also have new debutants in relation to the sponsorship of the tournament, as Bet MGM take over from Cazoo in this year’s staging.

The Quarter Finals will conclude with a repeat of the World Final in a hugely anticipated contest, with the Nuke recently clinching a last leg decider against Humphries in the Quarter Finals of the Dutch Darts Masters.

The World Champion though knows the task at hand and will hope to make the perfect start to his first campaign, showcasing he has the game to compete after winning his first four PDC Major Titles in the space of 3 months.

Cool Hand Luke comes into his maiden Premier League campaign as the World Number 1 and the reigning World Champion but will know the task at hand against Luke Littler, who has already clinched the Bahrain Darts Masters title in 2024.

The Nuke comes into Night 1 after hitting the 2nd perfect leg in World Series history, ending a 9 year wait after Phil Taylor struck the 1st back in 2015 at the Sydney Darts Masters.

Reigning Premier League Champion Michael van Gerwen starts his campaign against Michael Smith, in a repeat of the 2018 Final.

The Green Machine arrives on the back of a fantastic homecoming at the Dutch Darts Masters, missing just 4 darts at double in an 8-6 victory over Luke Littler in the Final.

Van Gerwen has reached 2 Finals in 2 World Series Events so far this year and will want to keep his winning run in the Premier League going after winning the last 2 competitions.

The Winmau player included a 105.43 average in beating Gerwyn Price 11-5 in last year’s Final.

Michael Smith finished 2nd 12 months ago in the league table, having claimed 4-night victories including 3 consecutive successes in Leeds, Manchester, and Sheffield.

Former World Champion Gerwyn Price won in the Welsh Capital 12 months ago, defeating Nathan Aspinall 6-3 in the Final after beating Chris Dobey and Michael van Gerwen earlier in the night.

The pair meet in the Quarter Finals this time around, with the Iceman coming into the contest as the home favourite, reaching the Semi Finals in both World Series Events in Bahrain and Holland.

Reigning World Matchplay Champion Nathan Aspinall is going through a difficult faze after going out early in the Dutch Darts Masters and the World Championship, but we saw last year how he adapted to the format, having just missed out on the Play Offs in Aberdeen to Jonny Clayton.

Two former Premier League finalists will open the action in Cardiff, as Peter Wright faces Rob Cross in the first Quarter Final.
Snakebite knows what it takes to succeed in the Welsh Capital, winning the opening night 2 years ago after averaging 113.02 in the Final against Jonny Clayton.

The Scotsman has a difficult proposition in Rob Cross in the opening Quarter Final, with Voltage recently reaching a 2nd World Championship Semi Final as well as the Final of last year’s Grand Slam of Darts.

The action will start from the Utilita Arena in Cardiff from 7pm, as the 2024 Premier League kickstarts a 16-week phase of mini knockout tournaments where £10,000 is awarded to each night’s champion.
