Bucks and Berks Can’t Be Separated

Bucks fifth game of their 2023/24 campaign in UKDA L-Style Division 1, saw a hard fought away draw against local neighbour’s Berks!

Ann Wakefield saw her Buck’s Ladies B team win the opening game through Courtney Amos. Berks hit back to win the next 2 with Nipaporn Smith and Ally Judge (17.28). 

Hannah Kirby (17.28) then put in a good performance to share Lady of the Match with Judge and level the contest. Bucks Janet Weedon & Alexandra Dorney then won the final 2 games to make the score 4-2 to Bucks.

The opening 6 men’s B games were shared with Berks wins coming from Steve Watts (15 dart leg & 180), Ryan Newton and James Shaw (23.19 & 180) and Bucks wins coming through George Grinsted, Nigel Beaven and Chris Freshwater (115 & 117 finishes). 

Berks took control of the contest by winning 5 of the next 6 matches through Callum Dorward, Andy Sturton, Simon Purvey, Ashley Upson and Peter Bisset. Bucks win was through Jack Arnold (23.19) who’s performance was enough to share man of the match with James Shaw. 10-8 to Berks after day one.

Bucks Lady’s A team then showed why they are the best in the division, led by Fallon Sherrock (Pic) who opened proceedings with an outstanding Lady of the Match performance, winning 3-0 with an incredible 33.40 average in 13,15 & 17 darts and a 160 finish.

Berks’ Kelly Ellis (180) won the next game before Bucks won the remaining 4 games through Kirsty Gibbs, Barbara Legge, Dawn Seaman (21.17) and Ann Wakefield. 13-11 to Bucks.  

The initial 8 Men’s A games were shared with Berks wins coming through Jason Heaver (25.90 & 180), Alex Ball (26.72, 15 dart leg x 2 & 180 x 3), Paul Self (180) and Joe Lacey (25.74 & 180). Bucks wins came through recent PDC tour card winner James Hurrell (Pic) (29.91,16,18,17 &16 dart legs) who put in a superb man of the match performance, Jon Woodbridge, Cameron Menzies (29.86, 13 x 2 dart legs) and Clive Wilford (28.38 & 15 dart leg) to make the score 17-15 to Bucks. 

With the tension rising, making his remarkable 25th appearance for Berks at only 14 years old, Archie Self (28.55, 14,15 dart legs & 180 x 2) kept his cool to win, followed by a Berks win by James Wiggins to level the match 17-17. 

Berks Paul Hogan (29.14, 15 dart leg x 2 & 180) then put in a great performance to win (pictured below) giving his side the lead with one game left to play!

The final game saw Bucks Mat Caste (15 dart leg & 180) hold his nerve to win and secure the overall draw 18-18.

Bucks are 8th out of 11 with 92 points, Berks 3rd with 119 points while Suffolk top the division  with 141 points from 6 matches played. 

Bucks next match is home to Merseyside who are 4th with 111 points from 5 matches played, on 2nd & 3rd of March at Cressex Community Centre & Sports Club.
