Curiouser and Curiouser said Alice. The PDC have been making some very interest decisions, deals and acquisitions recently and often with a North American connection.
The sale of a minority of the company, a partnership with North American capital and now an acquisition of a USA built product, used across much of darts, sees the company’s development since the retirement of Barry Hearn begin to take clearer shape.
Last week saw the announcement of the latest of these:
The Professional Darts Corporation is delighted to announce the incorporation of DartConnect – the market-leading darts scoring App & online platform – into its product offering.
The DartConnect scoring system, which was first launched in 2014, has been used in PDC events since February 2018 and will now be part of the PDC’s umbrella of products following the PDC’s acquisition of a majority shareholding in the company.
DartConnect is currently used as the official scoring system for PDC non-televised events including Players Championships, Winmau Challenge Tour and Development Tour events, the PDC Women’s Series and Qualifying School, as well as matches on Stages Three-Eight at the Ladbrokes UK Open.
The electronic system provides live coverage of matches across multiple boards with comprehensive match and player performance statistics available.
Since its introduction to PDC events, DartConnect has revolutionised PDC event scoring and proved extremely popular with players, officials and fans.
The simplified scoring process has improved the match experience for players and scoring officials, while darts fans have enjoyed more in-depth coverage of events than ever before with the ability to follow non-broadcast matches visit-by-visit.
Away from PDC events, DartConnect is the scoring system of choice for organisations and leagues globally for competition management and live scoring, while the DartConnect Scoring App provides a simple, interactive platform for darts players of all abilities around the world.
Through the enhanced partnership with the PDC, the DartConnect scoring system and App will be used to create a truly global darts community – enhancing DartConnect’s mission statement to “get more people to play more darts, more often”.
PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter commented: “We’re delighted to be joining forces with DartConnect and are excited for the opportunities this will bring for fans and players.
“DartConnect is the world’s leading darts data platform with thousands of players using it on a regular basis to record their scores and track their game. Additionally, over the last few years it has become established as the go-to destination for darts fans wanting to follow live scores from PDC tournaments at every level.
“Work is underway with the DartConnect team to develop the product further and integrate it with our live streaming and digital platforms to enhance the experience and ease of keeping tabs on your favourite players.”DartConnect founder David Macher said: “Since we our debut at the 2017 US Darts Masters in Las Vegas in 2017, Matt Porter and his team have been amazing collaborators, challenging us to take DartConnect to the next level. It is exciting and appropriate to be announcing this next chapter at the 2024 US Darts Masters in New York.”
“Together our innovations have connected fans with the PDC players from around the world through their global affiliates and competitions.
“The merging of our two firms will expand our ability to grow the global darts community for all levels of players, while accelerating the development of new features that make it easier than ever to get more people, to play more darts, more often.”
