Lancashire Remain Top In National League Roundup

Red Dragon Darts

Although Lancashire,  leaders of the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League had a bye in the recent round of fixtures they held on to their number one spot despite their nearest rivals Yorkshire winning 22-14 at home against Glamorgan.

With both teams now having just one more fixture to play Lancashire have what looks to be a title winning twenty-two points advantage over Yorkshire. In their final games Lancashire will play away against fourth in the division Lincolnshire while Yorkshire, who actually should have a bye in the last fixtures will play a rearranged game one fixture away to Humberside who are next to bottom of the table and will together with Staffordshire almost certainly play next season in the Championship Division.

Warwickshire suffered a narrow 19-17 defeat away to Essex, they hold on to third place but now only have a two points lead on fourth in the division Lincolnshire who lost by the same 19-17 margin at Cornwall, Warwickshire’s final fixture will be a home game against relegated Staffordshire while Lincolnshire will play hosts to the most likely champions Lancashire.

Buckinghamshire provided both the men’s and ladies ‘A’ top averages in their away game against Gwynedd as Cameron Menzies beat Llion Thomas 4-1 with a superb 34.30 average and Fallon Sherrock produced a magnificent 28.90 average in her 3-0 win over Gaynor Williams. The top men’s ‘B’ player was Simon Washington (Devon) who had a 28.90 average in his 3-0 win over Black Country’s John Green, while Leicestershire’s Angela Sheffield beat Tyne and Wear’s Danielle Seago 3-0 and had a 20.31 average.

Match number nine for Division Two of the UKDA National League saw the top two teams swap places as former leaders Middlesex had a narrow 19-17 win away to Norfolk and Clwyd, who were previously second had a much larger 26-10 home win over Surrey. The outcome of the two results sees Clwyd finish as champions with 211 points and Middlesex drop to second to take the runners-up spot with 205 points. So Clwyd and Middlesex will be playing next season’s campaign in the L-Style division one. West of England finished their season bottom of the division with 134 points, they together with Norfolk, who had a total of 152 points will play next season in division three.

A 32.43 average plus a 4-1 win over Norfolk’s Craig Venman earned Cam Crabtree the men’s ‘A’ award while for the ladies ‘A’ it was West of England’s Gail Dent who averaged 20.72 in her 3-1 win over Worcestershire’s Sophie Hadley. The men’s ‘B’ award was shared by Jodie Challinor (Clwyd) and Paul Welsh (County Durham) who both had a 30.06 average and in turn won 3-0 against Surrey’s Kirk De Ruyter and Salopian’s Darren Lane. It was another Clwyd player that took the ladies ‘B’ award, Jackie Brighton averaging 19.78 in her straight 3-0 win over Surrey’s Viv Fowlie. Leaders and champions of division three Northumberland had previously played their final scheduled fixture a home tie with Pembrokeshire way back in January and won 27-9 to put them on 223 points giving them a small lead of two points over second in the division and runners-up Cumbria who actually went down 19-17 away to Shropshire.

However despite the defeat Cumbria are fourteen points to the good on third placed Wirrall who halved the arrears from twenty-eight points to fourteen with a huge 28-8 home success against Isle of Wight but lost out on promotion as they were unable to catch the top two teams. Isle of Wight finished bottom of division three with 95 points, Pembrokeshire ending their campaign next to bottom with 130 points. Top averages for division three went to Chris Dilley (Bedfordshire) for the men’s ‘A’ as he beat Breconshire’s Phillip Evans 4-1 with a 28.33 average. The top ladies ‘A’ player was Shropshire’s Jenna- Louise Ball whose 20.88 average and 3-1 win over Cumbria’s Lesley Pattinson earned her the award. For the ‘B’ teams Cumbria’s Jack Pollard was the top man with a 28.36 average and 3-0 win over Shropshire’s Josh Ball, for the ladies it was Sian Harris (Breconshire) who had a 17.98 average and won 3-1 against Bedfordshire’s Helen Styles.

The saying is “All good things come to an end” and that was certainly the case for Warwickshire County Darts Organisation as their run of four consecutive victories in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League ended in their penultimate fixture of the season away to Essex.

The ladies ‘B’ match got off on the right foot when Denise Keyte beat Ann Farmer 3-0 and with a further 3-0 success for lady of the match Wendy Adams over Kerry Rudd Warwickshire were 2-0 up. Wendy Adams win saw her average 20.59 she was the away team’s award winner as it was Essex who took the remaining four games. Lynn Kelly beat Caroline Pike 3-1, Chloe Hawkins won a close 3-2 battle with her namesake Chloe McKivett-Saunders before Karen Green had a 3-1 win over Lucy Keyte and rounding off the 4-2 victory for Essex was Caz Pinfold who won 3-0 against Nina Bolt. Similar to the ladies ‘B’ match the men’s ‘B’ also won the opening two games as Mark Faulkner beat Phil Brewster 4-0 and with the same straight 4-0 result William Naylor accounted for Brandon Western.

Mark Martin looked as though he was going to make it 3-0 when he took the first leg off Danny McIntyre but it was the home player that won the next four legs for a 4-1 win. Parity was restored in the fourth when Stuart Wicks beat Samuel Price 4-1 but it was Warwickshire who went ahead again in the fifth when Dave Hill won 4-3 against Kev Cottiss. By the midway point Warwickshire had opened up a 4-2 lead after Karl Reynolds added his 4 3 win over Steve Haggerty to their account.

As the second session got underway Bryan Margerison reduced the arrears for Essex when he beat Mark Carter 4-3 only to see the visitors two games buffer restored in the eighth when man of the match Martin Tonks won 4-0 against Darren Richardson with a super 30.83 average and winning legs of 16,13,18 and 18 darts. Adam Hancock won the first leg against Scott Lawrie in 20 darts but then trailed 3-1 as Lawrie took the next three legs in 25,14 and 23 darts. Hancock pulled one back in the fifth which he won in 20 darts and with further wins in 18 and 15 darts which included outshots of 118 and 120 he won 4-3 to take the score to 6-3 to Warwickshire.

Game number ten saw the home side chalk up their fourth winner in the shape of Daniel Day who won 4-2 against Leigh Dells but the win was assured for Warwickshire in the penultimate encounter when Carl green beat Lennie Holmes 4-3. The final score was 7-5 to Warwickshire after James Wright won the last game of the day against Lee Miller 4-2 after Miller had gone 2-1 up. The ladies ‘A’ game finished with the same result as the ladies ‘B’ match and once again the opening win went to Warwickshire as Courtney Hine won 3-1 against Karen Williams, but from 1-0 up the away team then trailed 3-1 as Jade Gofford beat Donna Pinch 3-2, Leanne Halls won 3-1 against Kirsty Hinchliffe and Donna Gleed won 3-0 against Hannah Meek. Warwickshire’s second winner was their lady of the match

Natalie Gilbert who beat Stacey Ellis 3-1, recording a super 23.17 average in the process. The match looked to be heading for a draw when Marian Conway opened up a 2-0 lead over Wendy Collins in the final game but with a 126 game shot in the third and doubles evading Conway in the fourth the 3-2 result went to Wendy Collins to give Essex ladies a second 4-2 win for the weekend. The results for the opening four games of the men’s ‘A’ match all went to the first throw advantage with Warwickshire twice taking the lead thanks to Steve Hine beating Phil Halls 4-3 after Halls had gone 2-0 and 3-1 up and Kevin Dowling winning 4-1 against Jamie Peetoom.

Replying for Essex and cancelling out the two leads were Keegan Brown with his 4-1 win over Noel Grant and Brad Halls who won 4-0 against Jamie Hughes. The sequence was broken in the fifth when Joe Russell won 4-1 against Nigel Heydon to see the hosts take the lead for the first time in the game, a lead that didn’t last long as Warwickshire’s man of the match Jamie Atkins levelled the score at 3-3 at the halfway point when he handed out a straight 4-0 defeat to Richie Howson, Atkins averaging 27.45 with winning legs of 19,18,18 and 18 darts.

The home team were first out of the blocks as the second half got underway, Ben Adams winning 4-2 against Wayne Mynard, and then from 4-3 up increased their lead to 6-3 when Darren Peetoom won 4-3 against Gareth Braham and Matt Good had a 4-1 success over Matty Washbrooke. Samuel Whittaker kept hopes alive of a draw when he added his 4-2 win over Darren O’Neill to Warwickshire’s tally but the game was won for Essex in the penultimate tie when their Shaun Fox accounted for Jenson Walker with a 4-2 result after Walker had opened up a 2-0 lead. The last game of the weekend went to the visitors as Jack Wareing won 4-1 against Simon Monk, Wareing including a 156 checkout in the second leg, his win taking the final score to 7-5 to the hosts. The overall result for the weekend was a 20-16 win for Essex which puts them sixth in the division with 178 points while Warwickshire, desite the defeat hold on to third place and have 189 points.

In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division, West Midlands played an away game against Derbyshire with both sides struggling for points and anxious to get away from the relegation zone. Saturday’s games saw the home side chalk up a 12-6 lead with the ladies ‘B’ winning 5-1 and the men’s ‘B’ winning 7-5.

Match awards for the home side going to Jane Densley (23.12) and Keith Lodge (27.29) and for the West Midlands Jacqueline Trott (13.30) and Glen McGrandle (26.62). Derbyshire ladies continued their weekend with a 4-2 win for the ladies ‘A’, Rebecca Hoyland their top player with a fine 23.86 average, Jacqueline Maiden the West Midlands award winner for her 19.51 average. The men’s ‘A’ ’team‘ provided the only shining light for the West Midlands over the weekend as they ran out 9-3 winners with Shaun Carroll taking the man of the match award for his super 31.17 average and Gary Fenn receiving the same accolade for Derbyshire with his 28.63 average.

The overall result for the weekend was a close 19-17 win for Derbyshire to see them leap-frog their opponents and move to two places off the foot of the table with 155 points from eight games while West Midlands dropped to next to bottom of the division with 153 points from nine games. In addition to their away game against Derbyshire, West Midlands had their final game of the season, a home tie with Northamptonshire brought forward. Prior to the fixture West Midlands were next to bottom and their opponent’s three places above them with thirteen more points.

The weekend got off to a good start for the home team’s ladies ‘B’ as Jacqueline Trott opened up with a 3- 2 win over Debbie Dexter and was then followed by Sarah Maybury who made it 2-0 when she beat Taylor Johnson 3-1. However, from 2-0 up West Midlands then found themselves trailing 3-2 as the visitors Jo Johnson, Nicola Coleman and Jackie White in turn defeated Kelly Doleman (3-2), Crysta Wilcox (3-1) and Gemma Barrett (3-1) to leave the result hinging on the final game between Shellbie Simmons (West
Midlands) and Hollie McKain. A straight 3-0 win for Shellbie Simmons and a 17-08 average netted Shellbie not only the lady of the match award but also earned her team-mates a share of the spoils with a final 3-3 result.

Northamptonshire got the first stripe on the board in the men’s ‘B’ match when their Paul Shepherd won 4- 3 against Mark Craddock but the lead was quickly reversed as man of the match Scott Baker, with a 4-1 win over Paul Walker plus a 27.47 average levelled the game before Luke Griffiths gave West Midlands a 2-1 lead with his 4-2 win over Alex Dilley. As before the lead didn’t last long as the visitors then had two wins in a row from their Kyran Johnson and John Regan who defeated respective opponents Callum Parkes (4-2) and Ian Stanton (4-0). By the midway point it was level-pegging as the home side’s Glen McGrandle closed the half with a 4-3 win over Joe Judkins to make it 3-3.

West Midlands went ahead for a second time as the second session got underway, Darren Williams adding his straight 4-0 win over Michael Feasey to their account before the away side yet again reversed the advantage when Jamie Preston won 4-3 against Karl Hughes and Jay Hewitt beat Mark Zambra 4-2. With the score at 5-4 in Northamptonshire’s favour Adam Teasdale levelled the game when he won 4-1 against Simon Almey but a 4-3 win for Northamptonshire’s Stuart Gilmour over Kieran O’Mahoney yet again left the outcome resting on the final. Once more the West Midlands anchor player came good as Ryan Locker won his game against Stephen Brennan 4-0 to take the final score to 6-6 and on the day give an overall 9-9 scoreline.

Northamptonshire had two Rebecca’s on in their first two games of the ladies ‘A’ match and both of them came up trumps as opener Rebecca Rose beat Tara Simmons-Fullwood 3-0 and Rebecca Barrow made it 2- 0 with her similar 3-0 success over Julie Emry. Jacqueline Trott pulled one back for the Midlanders with her 3-1 win against Amy Chappell but a third 3-0 win for the visitors from Angela Barrow over Jacqueline Simmons put the away side within an ace of victory.

That victory came in the very next game when Carrie Wright added her 3-2 result against Shellbie Simmons to put Northamptonshire into an unassailable 4-1 lead. The final game produced the West Midlands lady of the match as Jacqueline Maiden, despite being taken to a decider by Ellie Moore won 3-2 to take the final score to 4-2 in favour of the away side. Strangely five of the opening six games of the men’s ‘A’ game went against the first throw advantage with the home side taking the lead twice in the first four games and having it cancelled out.

Ben Johnson gave the hosts the first win when he accounted for Duane Small with his 4-3 win, Josh Richardson replying for Northamptonshire with his similar 4-3 win over Jack Aldridge. A 4-0 win for Ash Khayat restored the home team’s lead as he defeated Jason Lovell but parity was restored in the fourth when Rick Evans won 4-3 against Shaun Carroll. Giving the Midland side the lead for a third time was Michael Baker, his 4-1 win over Chris Shipley putting them 3-2 up before the first half was completed with another 4-1 scoreline when Gavin Baker made it 4-2 with his win against Phil Coward. Luke Smith reduced the home team’s lead to 4-3 as the second half kicked-off as he won 4-1 against Rob Thompson only to see the two games buffer restored for West Midlands when Ryan O’Connor beat John Reagan 4-0. Northamptonshire came back fighting again in the ninth when Ben Goodger won 4-0 against Ian Jones but a draw was assured for the hosts when their man of the match Dean Simmons-Fullwood won

4-0 against Leigh Peters with a super 31.31 average. From an unbeatable 6-4 lead West Midlands then stormed into a winning 8-4 result as Kevin Bambrick added his 4-1 win over Colin Gray, and with a final 4-3 success for Richard Platt against Lee Rose the West Midlands men’s ‘A’ had not only made it an 8-4 win for themselves but at the same time secured an invaluable 19-17 overall victory for the weekend. The win has given West Midlands a lifeline to secure their Championship Division status as they have moved up four places in the table to sixth with 175 points, their destiny now rests in the hands of the teams below them as they all have one more game to play and those results will decide where West Midlands will be playing next season.

Going into their penultimate fixture of the season in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League Black Country were lying sixth in the division on 170 points and their final home game was against Devon who were three places below them on 138 points, so a win for the home team was on the cards and hopefully for them a move up the table.

The ladies ‘B’ could not have had a better start as their opener Heather Wright laid on a lady of the match performance in her 3-2 win over Katie Miller which gave her an average of 16.76. Wright’s win was quickly erased however as Hayley Brant levelled for Devon with her 3-1 success over Paige Robbins. The hosts took the lead once again in the third thanks to a 3-1 win from Abbey Hunt who accounted for Kirsty Whiting-O’Brien.

Unfortunately for the home team that was to be their final win as Rhea Winsor, Lisa White and Kayleigh Adams in turn all handed out 3-0 defeats to Doreen Hunt, Stella Sims and Sarah-Jane Parker to give Devon the 4-2 win.

The men’s ‘B’ side had an excellent first half winning five of the six games as Mark Jones and Rich Bowen gave them an early 2-0 lead when they both won 3-0 in turn against Macauley Campbell and Mark Shears. John Bush (Devon) was taken to a decider by Ryan Green but halved the arrears with his 3-2 win.

The remainder of the half went to Black Country as Ali Hickinbottom and Connor Whitehouse in turn won 3-2 against Danny Belsten and Shane House and then rounding off the half and giving the hosts a 5-1 lead was Ian Townsend who won 3-1 against Ian Loveridge.

As the second session got underway it was a case of more of the same as Sam Bissell took the running score to 6-1 with his 3-0 win over Curtis Green and chalking up the magical winning seventh game was man of the match Rob Smith who defeated Mark Turner 3-2 with a 27.46 average. Adding to Black Country’s total were Martin Greenwood and Mark Rollinson who had respective 3-2 and 3-0 wins over Shaun Hurrell and Tom Singleton before Devon had their best run of the match winning the final two games with Steve Boyce beating Al Smith 3-2 and Simon Washington winning 3-0 against John Green to put the final score at 8-4 to Black Country and giving them a lead of 11-7 to take into Sunday’s games.

After a somewhat disappointing result for the ladies ‘B’, the ladies ‘A’ stormed into a match winning 4-0 lead all starting with a 3-1 win from Chez Allcock who beat Lisa Hughes 3-1. Tammy Chance doubled the lead with her 3 2 success over Anna Pearce and with a similar 3-2 win, Grace Angell not only accounted for Karen Matthews but also claimed the lady of the match award for her 21.85 average. Chalking up the match winning fourth stripe was Heather Wright who handed out a straight 3-0 defeat to Tracy Ware.

Devon got their one and only winner in the penultimate game, Kelly Gabriel winning 3-0 against Doreen Hunt. With a last game 3-2 win for Amy-Leigh Tolley against Alison Gabriel-Wotton the result was a convincing 5-1 win for Black Country.

Devon were first off the mark in the men’s ‘A’ game, Mike Pearce winning 4-1 against Shane Sheridan, however that lead was quickly cancelled out as the hosts rattled off four consecutive wins thanks to Dan Homer, Jamie Rollinson, Liam Kelly and Steve Jones who in turn accounted for Flynn Jones (4-1), Scott Andrews (4-3), Mark Vellacott (4-1) and Daniel Brazier (4-3). The first half was rounded off with a 4-3 win for Devon’s Tex Pearce who was taken to a seventh leg by Aaron Colley before winning 4-3.

The second half began with Black Country extending their lead to 5-2 when Trev Brennan beat Paul Milford 4-1 before a 4-3 win for Daniel Case over Paul Wells gave Devon their third winner. A draw was guaranteed for the hosts in the ninth when man of the match Reece Colley won 4-0 against Ben Chamberlain with a superb 32.85 average and although Jack Walker pulled one back for the visitors when he beat George Willetts 4-3 the final score was taken to 8-4 with wins in the last two games by Jamie Barrowman and Tom Bissell, Barrowman winning 4-0 against Kieran Joy and Bissell beating Andy Hitchman 4-2.

The overall 24-12 victory for Black Country has seen them move up two places in the table to fourth with 197 points, nineteen short of leaders Suffolk, seven fewer than second placed Leicestershire and just one behind third placed Gwent so everything now depends on the results for the final games of the season and the big question is will Black Country play in division one or the championship next season?

Salopian’s final fixture in Division Two of the UKDA National League was an away game against County Durham, on current form and placing’s in the divisional table a win for Salopian was well on the cards as they were riding high in third place with 169 points and their hosts some four places below them with 145 points and dangerously close to the relegation zone.

As in the ladies ‘B’ match, the ladies ‘A’ also opened up a 2-0 lead as Evonne Taylor and Tracey Dean not only both chalked up straight 3-0 wins over their respective opponents Bryleigh Welsh and Cheryl Adamson but also recorded the exact same average of 17.48 to share the lady of the match award. The following two games both had 3-1 results and both went to the hosts as Cheryl Adamson and Clare Stewart in turn defeated Julie Griffiths and Kate Titley, then with 3-0 wins for County Durham’s last two players Linda Hindmarch and Margaret Stewart at the expense of Emma Tapp and Cally Jones the final score was a 4-2 win for the home side.

As County Durham won all of the opening first half games of the men’s ‘B’ match, Salopian replied by winning all six of the first half games of the men’s ‘A’ encounter. The win was achieved as early as the seventh game as man of the match Jon Mansell won 4-2 against Jack Bell with a 29.85 average. From a winning 7-0 lead it all then went a little pear-shaped as County Durham wrapped up the remaining five games. Gary Miller won 4-2 against Andy Gilbert, Michael Gladstone beat Gary Crowther 4-3, Paul Dinning had a 4-0 success against Ben Morgan and taking the final score to 7-5 in Salopian’s favour was Leo Middleton (County Durham) with his 4-2 win over Eddie Price.

The overall result for the weekend was a 23-13 success for County Durham which saw them remain seventh in the division with 171 points, opening up a gap of sixteen points between themselves and third from bottom Surrey. Salopian dropped one place to fourth on 182 points, their twenty-three point’s deficit on divisional runners-up Middlesex ruling out any hopes they had of promotion this season.

Shropshire’s final game of the season in division three of the UKDA National League was a home tie with Cumbria. Going into the fixture Shropshire were lying seventh in the table on 157 points and their opponents riding high in second place with 204 and promotion virtually assured.

Opening up for Shropshire’s ladies ‘B’ was Dianne Newton who gave them the early lead when she accounted for Tessa Ferris with a 3-2 result. Doubling the home side’s lead was Sarah Williams who had a straight 3-0 win over Fiona Dorward before Cumbria gained their first winner in the shape of Ali MacMillam who beat Kirstie Millington 3-1. An award winning show from Deana Sheldon in her 3-1 win and 17.24 average against Emma McGarvey put Shropshire 3-1 up and although Cumbria got their second winner in the fifth game when Val Hargrave beat Lauren Kempson 3-0, victory was achieved for the home side when in the last game Gemma Smith had a 3-0 win over Leanne Howard to put the final score at 4-2 to Shropshire.

It was not such a good start for the men’s ‘B’ as John Murray put Cumbria one up when he won 3-2 against Mark Jones and although Kye Simmonds cancelled out Murray’s win when he beat Gary Horrigan 3-2 the remainder of the half went in favour of Cumbria. Dan Vallance won 3-0 against Lee Dolman, Mike Sowerby had a 3-1 win over Rob Pierce, Mark Hird beat Adam Thackray 3-2 and taking the score to 5-1 to Cumbria was Dez Halbert who accounted for Jon Blakemore with a 3-0 scoreline.

From 5-1 up the away side then went into an unbeatable 7-1 lead with further wins from Jack Pollard who won 3-0 against Josh Ball and Craig Lewthwaite who added his 3-1 success over Mitch Pickett to the visitors tally. At this point Shropshire had their best run of the match as they won three in a row thanks to Anthony Whitehouse who beat Dex Forster 3-1, Chris Evans who won 3-1 against Brian Mandale and in the process earned himself the man of the match award for his 22.66 average and Rob Pitt who made the running score a little more respectable, his 3-2 win over Michael Williams reducing Cumbria’s lead to 7-4 before Colin Hargrave took the final score to 8-4 to the away team when he beat John Simms 3-1.

With Cumbria going into Sunday’s games with a 10-8 lead it then got worse for the hosts as the ladies ‘A’ slipped to a 4-2 defeat. Cumbria, with three 3-1 wins from their Ann Scholey, Hilary Kirkbride and Mary Paine, who in turn won against Nicola Ball, Sophie Ward and Michele Pritchard were then just one win short of victory and although Shropshire’s Marie Riggs had a 3-2 win over Jules Fisher it only managed to delay the inevitable as in the penultimate game Crissy Manley beat Kelly Millington 3-0 to put even a draw beyond Shropshire’s reach.

Last on for Shropshire was Jenna-Louise Ball who recorded a 3-1 win over Lesley Pattinson, her 20.88 average earning her the match award and making the result a little more respectable at 4-2.

The first two games of the men’s ‘A’ match both finished with 4-2 results, Shropshire going 2-0 up thanks to wins from Kevin Harris and Chris Fox at the expense of Steve Dixon and David Carr. Neil Linford pulled one back for Cumbria in the third when he won 4-2 against Andre Knox but by the midway point the hosts had opened up a 5-1 lead with further wins from award winner Richard Parker who average 27.45 in his 4-0 win over John Wightman plus Reece Cook-Lucas and Andrew Jervis who in turn won 4-1 against Alan Armstrong and Andy Goodfellow.

Sam Aitkens guaranteed Shropshire men’s ‘A’ of at the worst a draw when he won the second half opener against Mike Crawshaw 4-3. Cumbria then reduced the arrears to 6-3 when Ronnie Kirk beat Phil Clarke 4-2 and David Cunningham won 4-1 against Paul Harrison. That however was to be the visitor’s last winners as the final three games all went to Shropshire to give them a 9-3 victory. At number ten Andy Vellender handed Will Rowley a straight 4-0 defeat, Vellender followed by Simon Pritchard who beat Geoff Ramshaw 4-3 and rounding off the 9-3 win was Brett Cooper with his 4-1 success over Michael Adams.

The 19-17 win saw Shropshire finish their campaign sixth in the division with 179 points while their opponents ended the season as runners-up with 221 points just two short of divisional champions Northumberland who had 223 points.
