Robert Thornton was victorious on Saturday as he was crowned the winner of Double Trouble Week at the Modus Super Series, after defeating Ted Evetts in the final and claiming the £5,000 top prize.
Thornton, who entered the finale having finished 2nd in Group B on Thursday and Friday, began the night by winning just one of his two group phase matches, as he firstly suffered a defeat to Ted Evetts, before defeating Neil Duff to progress through to the Semi Finals.
The Thorn came up against old rival came up against old rival Richie Burnett in the last four, and from there, Thornton defeated the Welsh veteran, 3-1, to book his place in the final.
In the decider, Thornton would confront Ted Evetts for the second time on the night. Super Ted had defeated Sweden’s former Super Series champion Andreas Harrysson in the last four, and the tie once again went to a deciding leg. This time, however, Thornton got his revenge against ‘Super Ted’ as he sealed a 3-2 victory to pick up the Double Trouble crown, as well as the £5,000 first prize.
The Modus Super Series returns on Monday with Series Nine commencing and the start of Week One, with the first of three days of Group A and the field including Former PDC Tour Card Holders in Steve West, Bradley Brooks and Darius Labanauskas.
