Following Luke Littler’s win in the Grand Slam of Darts last weekend, the teenage talent has been heavily backed from 8/1 to 11/4 with William Hill to win this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.
The rising darts star has created significant distance between himself and other contenders in the market, with cyclist Mark Cavendish now trailing at a distant 18/1, whilst runner Keely Hodgkinson remains the firm 1/3 favourite.
William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Luke Littler’s stunning Grand Slam of Darts victory has earnt him significant backing for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
“Littler’s odds have been slashed from 8/1 to 11/4 for the award after an extraordinary professional debut year, making him the clear second favourite as fans and pundits rally behind his remarkable achievements.
“Keely Hodgkinson remains the frontrunner at 1/3, having been named Sportswoman of the Year last night at the at the SJA British Sports Awards. The race for the BBC award is shaping up to be a compelling two-way battle between Hodgkinson and Littler.
“Meanwhile, cycling icon Mark Cavendish is among other notable contenders, he sits further back in the betting at 18/1.”
