Not so very long ago alcohol was almost an extinct force in the sponsorship of sport and especially darts. Partly due to rules and regulations for television and partly due to darts’ previous difficulties with image. However, the tide seems to have finally turned.
The social media influence/r world has opened up a whole new stream for players and even sports to partner with alcohol companies without breaching government or broadcast rules and to tailor such deals accordingly.
PDC Europe having Blakladar among its roster of sponsors is one example. But perhaps the area to watch most is individual arrangements with players
For example. new premium vodka brand Golden Egg has just become the official drinks sponsor for world number five Stephen Bunting.
Golden Egg’s logo will be centre stage at all major darts tournaments, with its gilded logo appearing on Stephen’s shirt as well as across his social media platforms.
Part of the package sees fans able to get an exclusive Golden Egg discount via Bunting’s social media, available from Friday 24th January.

The partnership, which will run for 12 months, started with the World Series at the Maaspoort Den Bosch in Holland last weekend.
