Multiple Midlands leagues complete their ‘winter season’ and the their knock out competitions come to their conclusions as we head toward Summer holiday season.

As the Sheldon and District Winter League winds down its season a couple of rearranged fixtures have been played off, in the premier league next to bottom of the table EBAHA had a surprising 5-4 win at Raven Arrows who ended their campaign placed third in the division., EBAHA finishing top of the shadow league with eight points, four more than the other three teams in the league Banbury Club, RAFA and Brian’s Flights who all had four points.

Just the one game played in division one which saw third placed Old Salts Darts win their home tie with next to bottom of the division Hunters Moon, 6-3, despite the defeat Hunters Moon moved off the foot of the table having a single leg of average to the good on Hollywood Social Club who took the wooden spoon.

There were two fixtures played in division two, Lyndon Old Boys winning 7-2 against Maggies to see them move up from second place to finish top of the table with twenty-two point, two more than Raven as they finished as runners-up following their 5-4 win away to former leaders Moseley All Services Club who ended their season placed third on the same twenty points as Raven but with one leg of average fewer than their opponents.

The Harborne and District League are up to game twenty-one of a scheduled twenty-eight games season and the latest round of fixtures had no impact on the league’s top six teams. Northfield Conservative Club consolidated their pole position handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts, bottom of the table Windsor Complex, to keep them four points ahead of both Copper Fox ‘R’ and Northfield Darts Club, Copper Fox ‘R’ winning their homer game with Weoley Castle WMC 8-1 and Northfield Darts Club having a 6-3 success at home over Bourneville. Copper Fox ‘M’ are third, they won 7-2 at Thimble Mill to put them on thirty-six points and although two points short of the two teams directly above them, they do have a game in hand.

There was just the one maximum scored in the league this week and that came from Northfield Conservative Club player C.Steadman.

It was cup week in the Kings Norton League, first the League Cup Top Half semi-finals in which Toby Jug had a 13-8 win against Dingle and Greenlands had a narrow margin 11-10 win over Kings Norton Flights. 

In the Bottom Half semi-finals Perfection were the week’s biggest winners handing out a huge 18-3 defeat to Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club, joining them in the final will be Cock Inn following their 14-7 victory over Longbridge. 

Over the four games there were no fewer than seven maximums coming from A.Aindow (Dingle), J.Downer, T.Garfield (Greenlands), P.Taylor, Kyle Astbury (Perfection), R.Allcott (Cock Inn) and J.Wood (Longbridge). In addition to his maximum, T.Garfield also recorded a superb 164 game shot.

Cup finals have been on the agenda for the Four Oaks and District League, first the Coronation Shield in which Bishop Vesey, who finished the season placed fifth in division one, beat runners-up in the same division Walmley CSC Flighst with a very close 8-7 result.

The final of the Norman Day Cup brought together division one champions Nomads @ Hollyfields and Red Lion who finished seventh in the same division. The 10-5 result going in favout of Nomads @ Hollyfields to make it a league and cup double with Red Lion ending as runners-up in the cup.

The South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League are up to week two and after the opening two fixtures two teams, Northfield Darts Club and Stirchley United are locked together on maximum four points at the top of  the division one table, level not only on points but also on average. Northfield Darts Club had a 4-3 win at Northfield Conservative Club ‘B while Stirchley United won by the same margin at home against Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’. Third and fourth in division one, Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ and Quarry Lane Club are both on two points, Quarry winning their latest fixture 4-3 at home against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club. 

In division two Longbridge are outright leaders with a perfect four points from their two fixtures, the latest of which saw them win convincingly 6-1 at Bournbrook. After the leaders there are four teams, E57, Perfection, Bournbrook and West Heath CEM all on two points.

With only four fixtures remaining for Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’, leaders of the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League, they already have one hand on the winners silverware as their latest 6-3 win at Spring Meadow Pub keeps them six points to the good, plus a game in hand on second placed Old Liberal Club who in their latest fixture handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Bulls Head who are placed fifth in the league table. Third placed British Oak won 7-2 against Townsend Social Club to leave them within three points (one win) of Old Liberal Club but they trail them heavily on average. After the top three teams Plough and Harrow and Bulls Head are both on forty-eight points, eighteen behind the leaders, Plough and Harrow losing ground this week as they went down 6-3 at Spring Meadow Social.

Five players found the three treble twenties this week and they were J.Rollinson, P.Tonks (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’), R.Thompson (Townsend Social Club), J.Brookes (Spring Meadow Social) and N.Dingley (Plough and Harrow). H.Williams (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’) chalked up a superb maximum break of 170.

Although Spring Meadow were held to a 4-4 draw away to Union in the Silver End Sunday Morning League they remain top of the table with twenty points, just one more than Dudley Sports ‘A’ who have taken over the number two spot after their 7-1 win at Pensnett Liberal Club ‘A’. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club have moved up one place to third following their 5-3 win at New Talbot ‘A’ and Old Star, who were formerly second, drop to fourth despite their 5-3 win at Brickmakers Arms, however they do have a game in hand on the three teams above them and a big win in that game could see them take over at the top of the table. Fifth placed Tenth Lock’s 6-2 win at Old Liberal Club puts them on the same eighteen points as both Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Old Star, and like Old Star have a game in hand on the top three teams.

After their 5-4 home win over Roebuck ‘A’, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ need one more win to secure the Brierley Hill Monday Night League title as they currently have an eight points lead on second placed Bridge whose 8-1 home win over Dudley Sports ‘B’ still leaves them with a game in hand on the leaders. Maverick are third in the league, they are two points behind Bridge but have played one game more than them after their latest 6-3 home win over Starving Rascal.

After completing week two fixtures in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League seven of the starting line-up of eighteen teams are still able to boast a 100% win record. Leading the way on average only is Beech Tree Miners, whose most recent 5-2 win at Old Liberal Club ‘B’ gives them a slender one leg of average lead on three teams Chop House, Hollybush and Raven, Chop House won their home tie with Five Ways 7-0 , Hollybush were 6-1 winners at Fox Inn (Lye) and Raven beat their hosts Brickamkers Arms 5-2. The next two teams, Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Stourbridge FC ‘A’ in turn won 5-2 against Plough and Old Liberal Club ‘A’.

On the fixture card for the Rowley Monday Night League was the preliminary rounds of their Bill Bishop and Challenge Cups, the Bill Bishop Cup produced a 5-1 win for Bell over Plough and Harrow while in the Challenge Cup there was a 5-3 success for Vine over Spring Meadow.

Jason Lowe added two more wins to his account in the Amblecote RBL Premier League when he won 6-1 against Matt Davies and then went one better with a 7-0 success over Steve Gillam to give him a total of 254 points from thirty-eight games. Nick Fullwell held on to the number two spot after he also added two more wins to his tally beating both Trevor Cunningham and Jon Underhill 7-0 to give him a total of 226 points from thirty-six games. Ian Townsend remains third after he beat Steve Gillam 5-2 and Rob Hartill 7-0, like Fullwell he has played thirty-six games and is on 217 points. Paul Wells had a bit of a mixed night kicking off with a convincing 7-0 win over Grant Jackson but then going down 6-1 to Jake Robinson to see him drop one place in the table to fifth with 208 points from thirty-three games. Taking over in fourth place is Cayden Smith who after winning 5-2 against Joe Poole then won 7-0 against Mark Hopkins and finished the night with a 5-2 win against Gavin Smith to put him on 212 points from thirty-three games.

Game seven in the Black Country Men’s Super League brought together top placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club and third in the league Soccer Zone ‘A’, the outcome was a close 3-2 win for the home team, Quarry Bank Liberal Club to give them a total of twenty-six points, while their opponents, who are on twenty-one points dropped one place in the table to fourth. Allen’s Bar ‘A’ had a 5-0 home win over High Acres to leave them just one point short of the leaders, while a 4-1 home win over Allen’s Bar ‘B’ has seen Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club move up two places to third , on the same twenty-one points as Soccer Zone ‘A’ but with a game in hand on the two teams above them. Making up the top five is Townsend Social whose 3-2 home win, over Allen’s Bar ‘C’ gives them a total of twenty points.

Evonne Taylor is in scintillating form in the West Midland Ladies Super League, her latest 3-0 wins over Julie Emery and Claire Hobbs taking her unbeaten run to a fantastic, twenty-eight games and her 112 points giving her a nine point’s advantage over second placed Jacqueline Maiden plus she has a game in hand. Jacqueline Maiden moved up on place in the table as a result of her 3-1 win over Jodie Rowlands and 3-0 success against Julie Emery plus the fact that former second placed Gemma Barrett lost 3-2 to Sarah Barrett to leave her on 101 points from the same thirty games as Maiden.

Leaders of the West Midlands Men’s Super League, Kings Head didn’t play this week but remain top of the pile with fifty-eight points from fourteen games. Second in the league Staffordshire Knot reduced the arrears to five points on the leaders when they won 3-2 at home against Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Dog and Partridge are both on forty-nine points, the latter having played one game fewer than the teams above them. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club had a 4-1 home win over Cottage Spring while Dog and Partridge won their home tie with Junction ‘A’ 3-2.

Division one leader in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League, Scott Baker didn’t play in the latest round of fixtures but his 116 points from fourteen game keep him top of the table with a seven points lead on second placed Chris Manoila who has played seventeen games. Manoila only managed to reduce the arrears slightly has he, was held to a 4-4 draw by Simon Pritchard. Third in the division Simon Mountford won 5-3 against Justin Evans to leave him eight points short of Manoila with a game in hand. 

Division two leader, Michael Smith was another player to be held to a 4-4 draw, his opponent being Kobi Holyhead, however Smith, with 131 points still has a lead of twenty-nine over his nearest rival Joe Bartolo who beat Malcolm Pugh 5-3. Third placed Wayne Barratt is a further five points adrift and has played two games more than the two players above him, his latest fixture seeing him suffer a huge 8-0 defeat to Ben Wright.

 A 5-3 win over Tanya Dolman sees division three leader Olly Garratt take his points tally to 129, he has a game in hand on second placed Keogh Bate and has eighteen points more than Bate, Bate’s latest game saw him lose ground in the title race as he lost 5-3 to Liam Davis.
