Just 21-years old, Beau Greaves is already winning major darts titles like they’re on special offer at Tesco. She’s taken the Women’s Series by the scruff of the neck, swept up silverware, and somehow become the reluctant poster girl for a sport she’s not quite sure she wants to fully dive into just yet.
The million-pound question isn’t about talent — she’s got that in barrels — but about ambition. Is she ready to jump into the deep end of the PDC ProTour and wrestle with the lads full-time? Right now, she’s still deciding.
Speaking recently on Tops & Tales – the podcast hosted by Darts World columnist and PDC referee Huw Ware – Beau Greaves shared her thoughts with trademark Yorkshire directness and zero sugar-coating:
“I want to give it a go. I’d rather try and fail than look back and think I should’ve done that but didn’t. But sometimes I think, I’m a girl — why can’t I just have a good career in ladies’ darts? Why do I have to push myself because people want to see it on telly?”
It’s a fair point. Greaves doesn’t lack belief – she’s more than held her own against the men already. But she’s also fiercely loyal to the tour that made her. “I love it — Lakeside, the Matchplay, the friendships. It’s a different tour completely. I’d miss it loads.”
Of course, she hasn’t been hiding. Beau’s already had a taste of the Development and Challenge Tours, plus a few marquee TV appearances. But early experiences weren’t exactly a laugh-a-minute:
“I absolutely hated it at first. I didn’t want to be there. It was just the atmosphere, the only lady in the room, a bunch of men. I just didn’t feel comfortable.”
Thankfully for the Doncaster lass, that’s changed. “I’ve started to enjoy it, which is a new thing for me. I feel more relaxed playing the men, weirdly. There’s a different mindset to it.”
And as for pressure? There’s more of it in the ladies’ game than people might think. “There’s less expectation against the men. At the Women’s Series, I go in thinking I’ve got to win — or I should win. But against the men, I’m just out there to play.”
Whatever happens next, Beau isn’t moving for applause or headlines. She’s moving when she’s ready — and when she does, the darting world might want to pay attention.
“I do want to push myself. I want to see what I can do.”
There’s already been more than a glimpse of what Beau Greaves can do under the bright lights — her televised outings have shown she’s more than capable of hanging with the PDC elite.
If she does decide to step into that world full-time, surely, rubbing shoulders with the sport’s heavyweights every week will only sharpen her game even more?
