You know it’s a big day when darts players across three cities in South Africa are simultaneously taking aim. The African Darts Group (ADG) and IDSL pulled off a masterstroke by hosting three international qualifiers on the same day.
Events in Cape Town, Gqeberha, and at the Sessions Billiard Club, proving once and for all that African darts is not here to play… unless it’s on stage with a trophy on the line.
At the Sessions Billiards Club – apt location for a darts event – it was Cameron Carolissen who stole the show – and a shiny piece of silverware – by winning the Challenge Cup Finals. The win secured him a coveted place at the MODUS Super Series, where he’ll now get the chance to mix it with some of the sport’s finest. No pressure, Cameron.
Meanwhile, over in Cape Town and Gqeberha, two more names stepped up: Caleb and Khazimla. The pair emerged victorious from their respective IDSL qualifiers, booking golden tickets to play at the Championship Finals in Pompey later this year. One minute you’re throwing darts in your local league, next minute you’re trying to figure out the closest airport to Portsmouth.
ADG, spearheaded by Devon Petersen, continues to lead the charge in turning Africa into a serious contender on the world darts map. From youth development to televised appearances, this isn’t a gimmick – it’s a movement. And not the type that needs a chiropractor afterwards.
Talking afterwards, ADG proudly posted:
“We’re not just creating players, we’re creating a platform that will change lives.”
And judging by the weekend’s action, they’re doing just that – one treble 20 at a time. With momentum building and three fresh qualifiers ready to show what Africa’s got, the future of darts on the continent isn’t just promising – it’s already happening.
