South Africa will step onto the global darts stage later this summer, making their debut in the second MODUS International Pairs tournament, scheduled for 25–30 August 2025 at the MODUS Live Lounge in Portsmouth.
The African nation becomes only the second from the continent to participate in the growing international MODUS Super Series competition, following Kenya’s inaugural appearance earlier this year. Representing South Africa will be the country’s most recognisable darts figure, Devon Petersen, alongside rising talent Carl Gabriel. Gabriel, whose recent form on home soil has turned heads was officially invited to compete following confirmation from the African Darts Group, which praised his rapid development and tenacity.
Following the success of the event earlier this year, darts fans will be treated to more of the same next month on England’s south coast. The nation participant tally currently stands at seven, with five more pairings still to be announced. The South African duo will join a strong international field that includes:
- Netherlands: Jimmy van Schie and Danny van Trijp
- Canada: Jeff Smith and Dawson Murschell
- Sweden: Andreas Harrysson and Anton Ostlund
- Wales: Richie Burnett and Kurt Parry
- Germany: Rene Eidams and Paul Krohne
- Denmark: Ivan Springborg-Poulson and Andreas Toft-Jorgensen
The maiden edition of the MODUS International Pairs, held in May, was won by the Dutch pairing of Van Schie and Van Trijp – who will now return to defend their title in what promises to be a fiercely competitive second chapter.
The MODUS Super Series has quickly established itself as a premier showcase for both established professionals and emerging talent across the world. South Africa’s involvement underlines the sport’s continuing global growth and the nation’s ambition to solidify its place within the international darts community.
For Petersen, it marks yet another opportunity to lead by example, while for Gabriel, it’s a career-defining breakthrough. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on the Live Lounge this August to see whether the new pairing can make an immediate impact – or even pull off a debut upset. Expect passion and plenty of it from these two boys.
