Champions Week: The Gambler Seizes Finals Night Place

Graham Usher secured his place in Saturday’s Champions Week finale on Wednesday, despite only winning one of his five matches to end his Group A campaign, top, as the field was confirmed for Groups B and C at the MODUS Super Series.

Usher, a recent World Seniors Championship runner-up, entered Wednesday’s play on 16 points from the opening two days of Group A, topped the group overall despite only winning one of his five matches.

The Gambler’s solitary victory came against Scott Taylor, whilst his four defeats were versus Derek Coulson, Shane McGuirk, Jimmy Van Schie and Jurjen Van der Velde, to end on 18 points from a possible 30 overall.

Elsewhere, Jurjen Van der Velde and Derek Coulson will both compete in Group B, after the pair finished 2^nd and 3^rd respectively overall, with Van der Velde ending on 18 points and Coulson on 16 points. The duo will be joined on Thursday and Friday Evening by Jeff Smith, Adam Gawlas and John O’Shea.

Jimmy Van Schie, Scott Taylor and Shane McGuirk will all compete in Group C, after finishing 4^th, 5^th and 6^th respectively overall, with Van Schie ending on 16 points, Taylor on 12 points and McGuirk on 10 points. The trio will be joined on Thursday and Friday Afternoon by Danny Van Trijp, Andy Hamilton and Richard McKee.

The MODUS Super Series continues on Thursday with Group C commencing from 1pm BST and Group B commencing from 10pm BST.
