On The Oche – DW 590

After our catch up issue in May we have seen two annual calendar highlights, a surging new major and a modern darts ecosphere that simply does not stop.

The World Cup of Darts certainly made a mockery of those who make assumptions based on recent form or ranking. Northern Ireland’s win was fairytale stuff as experienced major winner Gurney shepherded a burgeoning Josh Rock to his first premier level TV crown and such a meaningful one at that.

There has been a rush of Pro and Tier Tour events as they raced toward Matchplay and imminent qualifications as well as reaching the midpoints for the race for Ally Pally, Tour Card and other incentives.

Speaking of the beloved Blackpool jamboree, many consider this year’s edition to be up there with the best ever held. Regardless of your view of such comparisons it cannot be denied it was a dramatic week with many superb performances and sensational climaxes as the crowns went to an 18 year old teenager and a 54-year-old veteran who has spent part of recent seasons playing seniors darts!

The ever evolving MODUS Super Series has introduced new ‘MSS Majors’, held the latest editions of pre existing ones, and completed the eleventh season of its core event. Watch out for upcoming; Pairs, Rising Stars and Influencer editions.

The ADC’s Vault continues to generate huge interest and their Winmau Championship Tour has completed its third season with finals 8s for both men and women soon headed to Portsmouth for their finals days.

The WDF season is also hotting up as Lakeside spots are hunted down and the Amateur World Cup travels to Seoul in South Korea.

The Youth side of our game also never seems to pause for breath, as you will see within these pages there are new events, academies and players popping up on an almost daily basis.

As an added touch for our summer issue we have noted some of the ever present topics that provoke much debate online and at darts events across the globe. Some need urgent action, some may well need a tweak or two and some should probably best be left well alone.

Look out for the special silver columns and drop us a line with your thoughts.
