England’s superstar pairing stumbled as teams Switzerland, Wales, Canada, Ireland and Sweden joined the Netherlands in Saturday nights final.
Stefan Bellmont & Bruno Stockli, Richie Burnett & Kurt Parry, Dawson Murschell & Jeff Smith, Conor Heneghan & John O’Shea and Andreas Harrysson & Anton Ostlund all secured their places in Saturday’s International Pairs finale after coming through their respective groups at the Modus Super Series, to join Jimmy Van Schie & Danny Van Trijp (Netherlands), the winners of Group A earlier in the week.
Bellmont & Stockli, who entered Friday’s play on 8 points from the opening day of Group C, topped the group overall after winning four of their five matches again, as they recorded victories against Carl Gabriel & Devon Petersen (South Africa), Ivan Springborg-Poulsen & Andreas Toft-Jorgensen (Denmark), Scott Campbell & Robert Thornton (Scotland) and Richie Burnett & Kurt Parry (Wales), with their only defeat coming against Rene Eidams & Paul Krohne (Germany), to end on 16 points from a possible 20 overall.
Elsewhere, Burnett & Parry also progressed through to Saturday’s finale, after finishing 2nd overall on 12 points, whilst Poulsen & Jorgensen finished 3rd on 10 points, Eidams & Krohne and Campbell & Thornton finishing 4th and 5th on 8 points each, with Gabriel & Petersen finishing bottom on 6 points.
In Group B, Murschell & Smith topped the group overall after winning two of their four matches on Friday Evening, as they recorded victories against Conor Heneghan & John O’Shea (Ireland) and Jason Brandon & Alex Spellman (USA), with their two defeats coming against Andreas Harrysson & Anton Ostlund (Sweden) and Steve Beaton & Adrian Lewis (England), to end on 10 points from a possible 16 overall.
Elsewhere, Heneghan & O’Shea and Harrysson & Ostlund also progressed through to Saturday’s finale, after the pairs finished 2nd and 3rd respectively overall, with Team Ireland ending on 10 points and Team Sweden on 8 points, edging out Beaton & Lewis
The England duo who also ended on 8 points, but missed out in 4th due to leg difference after twice Word Champion Adrian Lewis returned to competitive action.
Brandon & Spellman finished bottom on 4 points. The Modus Super Series continues on Saturday with the conclusion of International Pairs Week with the six pairings battling it out for the top prize.
