Player Profiles: Rob Cross

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

Rob Cross’s rise in darts is one of the sport’s most incredible stories. Just a few years before lifting the World Championship trophy, he was wiring sockets as a full-time electrician. In 2016, he made the bold decision to pursue darts professionally, and by January 2018, he had stunned the world – beating Phil Taylor 7–2 in the World Final to claim the title on his debut.

Name: Rob Cross
Nickname: Voltage
Born: 21/09/1990
Place of Birth: Pembury, England
Nationality: English
Laterality: Right-handed
Highest PDC Ranking: 2
Darts: 21.5g Target Signature Gen 1
Walk-on Tune: I Don’t Wanna Wait – David Guetta & OneRepublic

Since that historic win, Cross has proven he’s no flash in the pan. He’s picked up multiple major titles, including the 2019 World Matchplay and back-to-back European Championships in 2019 and 2021, either side of the Covid pandemic. His calm under pressure and relentless scoring have earned him a reputation as one of the sport’s most consistent and composed competitors.

His career saw another resurgence in 2024. He claimed the Baltic Sea Open and then defeated Gerwyn Price 8–7 in a dramatic US Darts Masters final. In 2025, he hit his first televised nine-darter during the Premier League semi-final against Nathan Aspinall – a fitting reward for years of hard graft and persistence at the top level.

Away from the oche, Rob is a family man, married to Georgia and raising four children. Despite the fame, he’s remained grounded – often saying he’s still just a bloke from Hastings who got a lucky break. With his relaxed attitude and laser-sharp focus, he’s become one of the most admired players on tour.

With over 20 PDC titles and ten televised majors under his belt, Rob Cross has long since shed the “one-hit wonder” label from his Ally Pally triumph and is widely regarded in the top echelons of the modern era. Voltage is still buzzing with energy – and, despite some well publicised financial travails, with his form holding strong, more big wins are surely on the way.
