Vincent Backs Out and Mics Up!

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

Vincent van der Voort’s efforts to reignite his darts career have hit another unfortunate roadblock, once again withdrawing from competition due to chronic physical issues.

The 49-year-old was due to feature in the upcoming MODUS Super Series but has pulled out just days before play begins, still struggling with long-term neck and back injuries. His absence marks yet another setback in what has become a frustrating chapter in his post-PDC career.

The Dutchman’s absence does however mean a welcomed return to competitive action for two-time PDC major winner, Rob Thornton for the first time since the sad passing of his wife, Christine.

Speaking upon the latest unfortunate complications, Vincent told Sportnieuws.nl:

“I can still throw a dart, but I can’t sustain it. If I don’t feel like I can compete to win, there’s no point in stepping up to the oche.”

The former world number 10, known for his fast pace and fiery spirit, has faced multiple interruptions in his attempts to return to action since stepping away from the PDC tour in early 2024.

He had previously been slated to make his World Seniors Darts Championship debut earlier this year but was forced to withdraw less than 24 hours before his opening-round tie with Neil Duff at the Circus Tavern.

At the time, World Seniors Darts Chairman Jason Francis commented: “Vincent’s wellbeing comes first. Everyone at WSD wishes him the very best, and we hope to see him involved in future events.”

Duff progressed via a walkover, while Van der Voort was left to deal with yet another unwelcome spell on the sidelines. Gout has also been a recurring issue, having already ruled him out of a MODUS Super Series appearance earlier in the year.

Although no longer on the PDC circuit – he relinquished his Tour Card last season – Van der Voort hasn’t fully stepped away from the sport. He appeared at the 2024 Dutch Open in Assen, partnering with his son Kevin, and has taken part in several exhibitions. However, consistent pain has made serious competition almost impossible.

“I’m working with a physio and doing everything I can, but for now, I just can’t reach the standard I demand from myself.” he added.

Despite missing out on playing duties, Van der Voort will still feature during the MODUS Super Series finals – this time behind the microphone. He’s set to take on English-language commentary duties, offering fans insight from someone who’s spent more than two decades inside the sport’s inner circle. With a smile, he said:

“I’m not too concerned. If it doesn’t go well, they can send me home. I’ll survive.”

Always a silver cloud hey Vinny! For now, the big-stage lights remain just out of reach for Van der Voort. But whether in the commentary box or alongside family at the oche, the Dutch Destroyer’s passion for darts burns just as brightly – even if his body doesn’t always cooperate.
