Charlie Manby and Jamai Van den Herik were victorious on Friday, after winning Development Tour Events 16 & 17 respectively, as the fourth weekend of the PDC’s Youth Tour season commenced at the Robin Park Leisure Centre, Wigan.
Manby, a finalist in Event Three earlier this year, went a step further in Event 16, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Kieran Thompson, Aidan O’Hara, Keanu Van Velzen, Joshua Jones, Jack Drayton, Jamai Van den Herik and Beau Greaves, to set up a clash with compatriot Owen Bates.
The final began with Bates racing into a 3-0 lead, with winning legs coming in a total of 47 darts, before Manby ended the drought with an 18-dart break of throw. The 20-year-old then rattled off three successive legs which saw him take the lead for the first time at 4-3 and move within one of victory.
Bates then sent the tie to a ninth and deciding leg in Leg Eight with a 13 dart hold of throw. The advantage of throwing first proved to be decisive in the decider as Manby sealed the victory with an 18 darter to pick up a maiden PDC title as well as the £2,500 top prize.
In Event 17, Jamai Van den Herik was victorious, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Micha Boekelaar, Alfie Busby, Jurjen Van der Velde, Viktor Tingstrom, Jarno Bottenberg, Liam Maendl-Lawrance and Jack Gillett, to set up a clash with Englishman Cam Crabtree.
The final began with Van den Herik racing into a 4-0 lead, with winning legs coming in 17,12,14 and 15 darts respectively to move within one of victory in double quick time. Crabtree did pull one leg back in 19 darts before Van den Herik sealed a 5-1 victory in Leg Six with a 16 darter to clinch a maiden Development Tour title, having previous won two titles on the Challenge Tour.
The PDC Winmau Development Tour weekend continues on Saturday, with Events 18 & 19 taking place in Wigan, with play commencing at 10:30 BST, as all live scores and results can be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com.
