Jurjen Van der Velde was victorious on Sunday, in winning his fifth PDC Development Tour title, after defeating Henry Coates in the decider, as the fourth weekend of the PDC’s Youth Tour season concluded in Wigan.
Van der Velde, the winner of Event 14 back in May, went all the way once again as he reached the final of Event 20 firstly by recording victories against Dan Outwin, Daan Bastiaansen, Dylan Quinn, Liam Maendl-Lawrance, Jeffrey Keen, Owen Bates and Jack Peet, to set up a clash with Englishman Henry Coates. The final began with three straight holds of throw, ending with Van der Velde breaking Coates’ throw for the first time in Leg Four to move 3-1 ahead in a race to five. The Dutchman moved within one of victory in the following leg with an 18 darter, leaving Coates needing to win four straight legs to keep his title hopes alive. The Englishman did pull one leg back, before Van der Velde sealed the victory in Leg Seven with a 16 dart hold of throw to pick up a second title of the year as well as the £2,500 top prize. The PDC Winmau Development Tour season concludes between 11-12th October with Events 21-24 taking place from The Robin Park Leisure Centre, Wigan. Following the conclusion of the season, the top two players from the Development Tour Order of Merit will receive two-year PDC Tour Cards for 2026/27 and a place at 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
