On the agenda for the Sheldon and District Summer League this week were the quarter-finals of their League Cup. Group one leaders Raven Arrows took on third in the same group Highwood and despite an eleven darts game from Highwood’s John Buckingham they lost 5-2 to the league leaders. Langley Arrows are second in group one and they, with maximums from both Simon Power and Paul Nixon won 6-1 against Banbury Club who are top of group two.

Although group two’s Smithswood Social Club had a maximum from Lewis Franklin, they went down 4-3 to Moseley Rugby Club who are two places off the bottom of the group three table. The biggest surprise of the round was the 5-2 defeat suffered by group one side Trident Spears who lost 5-2 to Raven, who are in group three, Jordan Grainger notching a maximum for Raven.

In addition to the cup quarter-finals there were also three rearranged league fixtures played. In group two RAFA were held to a 4-4 home draw by EBAHA, both teams remaining in their respective second from top and second from bottom positions. There was no joy for group three’s bottom of the table team Shirley Misfits as they went down 6-3 at home to Langley Flights while in group four, Langley Pints moved up one place in the table to third following their convincing 7-1 win at Sheldon Marlborough Flights who drop down one place to fourth.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League also had a mixture of cup and league results. In their Divisional Cup finals, the division one contest brought together the division’s top two teams with leaders Northfield Darts Club squaring up to second placed Stirchley United and with Northfield Darts Club already having one hand on the league title they won the cup title with a 13-8 victory.

The division two final saw Longbridge United, who are currently top of the division take on Bournbrook who are third. Once again the result was 13-8 and again going to the divisional leaders, Longbridge United.

On the league front division one leaders Northfield Darts Club suffered their first defeat in eight games when they lost 4-3 at home to Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club who are next to bottom of the division with six points, eight fewer than their hosts who despite the defeat hold on to pole position with fourteen points, four more than second placed Stirchley United who reduced the arrears to four points with a 6-1 win at Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, A.Cullen notching a maximum for Stirchley.

In the division one pre-match doubles, it’s Northfield Darts Club who again top the table, their huge 102 points, seventeen more than their nearest rivals Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club.

A 5-2 result at home against Bournbrook, plus a maximum from A.Sutton keeps Longbridge United top of the division two table with twelve points, however they only head the table on average as second placed West Heath CEM won their home tie with Moseley All Services Club 7-0 to put them on the same twelve points but trailing by nine legs of average.

Longbridge United also top the division two pre-match doubles league with eighty points and have a lead of nineteen over second and third placed Bournbrook and Bartley Green FC, Bartley Green FC having a game in hand on the two teams above them.

The Heartlands Sugardarts M&E Co Double Top League are up to week sixteen and leading the field with seventy-three points from thirty-one games is Steve Cain. In the lates round of fixtures Cain had a bad start to the night as for only the third time in thirty games he lost playing against Stephen Smith who is eighteen places below bim in the table and has thrty-five fewer points. Nevertheless Steve Cain was quick to recover and won his second fixture against Adam Rogers 3-0 to keep him top of the table with a five points advantage over Martin Cooper who didn’t play this week but remains in second place, that however wasn’t the case for Matthew Cain as due to him not playing he dropped two places to fifth and although six points behind Steve Cain he has six games in hand on him. John Frost moves up two places in the table to third after ading his 3-0 win over Sue John and 2-1 success against Dean Bond to put him on sixty-five points from thirty-one games. There were mixed fortunes for fourth placed John Burdett as he began the niight with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of John Yates but then bounced back with a 3-0 success against Emma Cain.

Chop House have taken their unbeaten run in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League to double figures in style as in the tenth fixture of the season they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Brickmakers Arms to keep intact their two points lead over second placed Stourbridge FC ‘A’ who were also 7-0 winners in their home game against local rivals Stourbridge FC ‘B’. After the top two teams come a quartet of teams, Bird in Hand ‘E’, Hollybush, Old Liberal Club ‘A’ and Raven who are all on fourteen points, six short of the leaders. Bird in Hand ‘E’ had a 5-2 win at Five Ways while Hollybush had a closer 4-3 win at Swan. Old Liberal Club ‘A’ won their home tie with Beech Tree Miners 6-1 but sixth placed Raven lost their third place after suffering a 5-2 at Netherton Conservative Club who are just three places off the foot of the table.

With no scheduled fixtures for the Rowley Monday Night League due the Bank Holiday, there was one rearranged fixture between Whiteheath Tavern and Hawthorns Tavern ‘B’ played. The result was a decisive 8-1 win for Whiteheath Tavern which saw them move up one place in the table leap-frogging Plough and Harrow to go seventh level on twenty-eight points with Plough and Harrow but with a slightly better average. For Hawthorns Tavern ‘B’ they dropped one place to fourteenth just four places off the foot of the table.

Leaders of the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ were awarded a 9-0 walkover against Netherton Conservative Club this week, but with eighty-seven points and a six point’s lead it was all irrelevant really as they already had the title wrapped up. With 180’s from S.Gough and G.Moreton plus a 6-3 result against Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club, Old Liberal Club have secured the runners-up spot as although they have competed their fixtures, third placed British Oak, who were another team to be awarded a 9-0 walkover, are six points short of Old Liberal Club with only one more game to play.

Other player that found the three treble twenties this week were C.Glanville (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’), N.Dingley (Plough and Harrow and J.Archer (Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club).

Only one rearranged fixture played in the Black Country Men’s Super League in which Allen’s Bar ‘B’ gained a narrow 3-2 win over High Acres, the result sees Allen’s Bar ‘B’ move up two places to ninth just one point behind their opponents, while High Acres, despite losing moved up one place to eighth.

The West Midlands Ladies Super League have got their new season underway and the good news is that they have swelled their numbers from eighteen to twenty-two players. The early pacesetter is Hannah Davies who is only one of two players to have played two games on the first night of the new campaign, the other one being Claire Hobbs. Hannah kicked off the new season with a 3-2 win over Sarah Barrett and although she lost her second game to newcomer Jade Wellings, her six points were enough to put her in pole position. Hot on the heels of Hannah Davies are nine players who all won their opening fixture and are on four points and they are Kelly Aston, Gemma Barrett, Lauren Herrington, Kath Jenkins, Jacqueline Maiden, Eloise Milburn, Jacqui Simmons, Evonne Taylor and Jade Wellings.

Wins for the top three teams in the West Midlands Men’s Super League as leaders Staffordshire Knot increased their bid for the title by handing their visitors, bottom of the table Junction ‘B’ a 7-0 whitewash, Junction ‘B’ still seeking their first win after losing all of their opening eighteen games.

The win takes Staffordshire Knot’s points tally to seventy-five and gives them a three point’s lead on joint second Dog and Partridge and Kings Head who in turn won 4-1 against Hotshots and Cottage Spring. Surprise of the week was the defeat for third placed Dudley E Serviceman’s Club who went down 3-2 playing away against William Archer who are two places off the foot of the table with only six wins from their nineteen games, plus they are a huge thirty-two points behind their opponents.

In the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League, Allen’s Bar had a crucial 5-2 win away against Cottage Spring who are third in the league and now two points behind their victors. Second placed Vine ‘A’ were 6-1 winners away to eighth placed Waggon and Horses, the win seeing Vine ‘A’ go level on points and average with Allen’s Bar to share the number one spot. Wonder ‘B’ are fourth, they have thirty-six points, two fewer than Cottage Spring after they won 4-3 at home against Three Horseshoes who are fifth and now eight points behind their fourth placed opponents.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League staged their annual Derek Watts Charity Doubles Knockout and in the semi-finals Phil Mayo and Ken Chilton lost 2-0 to Rich Newey and Alex Bryant while the second of the last four games went the full three legs distance with Simon Pritchard and Phil Davies winning 2-1 against Simon Mountford and Scott Pilsbury.

The final was extended to the best of five legs with Rich Newey and Alex Bryant running out the 3-0 winners to lift the winners silverware, Simon Pritchard and Phil Davies finishing as runners-up.
