Clayton’s Hildesheim Handicap

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

Welsh maestro and the world’s most gifted tungsten Ferret, Jonny Clayton, has made it clear he’s not a fan of Players Championship events held in Germany. But we are not sure why.

Speaking after his straight-sets victory over Andrew Gilding in the opening round of the World Grand Prix, Clayton didn’t mince his words when asked about his absence from the recent Hildesheim Pro Tours – though he stopped short of offering a detailed explanation.

“I think where I am in the rankings – I guess world number six – from about four to maybe eight or nine, we’re all close together. If you want to stay in that top ten, basically you have to do everything. I didn’t go to Germany for the Pro Tours in Hildesheim, simply because I don’t think we should have them there, but those are the only ones I miss. I try to get to everything.

More detail will doubtless be sought by the pressmen as its highly unusual for Jonny to be even vaguely controversial.

“I skipped one European event because it was my daughter’s 18th – otherwise I’d have been there. For me to stay in the top ten, I’d like to get as high as I can. I want to be world champion, I want to be world number one – I think every other player would say the same. That’s my dream, and I’m going to try my hardest to get there. If I don’t, I’ll still try my hardest.”

Well, I am sure Luke Littler would be nodding emphatically to that choice Jonny – he doesn’t even bother go to the Euro ones there. I guess it’s “Go Jonny, go go go”… just maybe not to Hildesheim.
