The final event of a busy WADC weekend in Aylesbury went the way of Vicky Pruim, as she denied Lauryn Salter a comeback win to take a 5-4 success in the final of the Red Dragon National Singles Finals.

53 players had earned their right to be at the tournament, as a result of playing in several singles events across the country, and once the group stages had ended, four players from each group advanced to the last 32.

Pruim breezed past Denise Pape and Michele Copas without dropping a leg to make the quarter finals, where an average of over 80 was just enough to take a 3-2 win against Sophie Hadley.

The Swede would ease her way into the final, as a 4-1 win against Maggie Sutton confirmed a safe passage to a meeting with Salter.

Salter had made the final of the Vault National Finals a day earlier, but it proved another runner-up berth in the end for her.

The Suffolk thrower dropped just one leg in making the knockout phase, and she whitewashed Tracey Heppinstall and Sara Walton to waltz into the quarter finals, where she averaged over 78 in a 3-1 win against Debbie Dexter. A 4-2 success was enough for Salter to make the final, with Lisa Brosnan defeated in the last four. Brosnan had put out ten-time world champion Trina Gulliver in the last eight.

With the final a best of nine legs affair, Pruim largely dominated the opening exchanges, but Salter fought back from 4-2 down to force a final leg, where Pruim found an 18-darter to win the title, and the £1,000 winners’ prize.
