Super Darts Building Interest With Legendary Guest Stars

FAMILIAR with the PDC’s major events on SKY sports or perhaps the Premier League is your weekly tungsten fix? But were you aware that an interesting and innovative darts format, throughout the years SUPER DARTS has become renowned for attracting international stars and delivering top-level competition.

Some of the world’s greatest darts players have competed in the soft-tip event since the tournament began in 2007.

Ahead of this year’s event, which gets underway in Tokyo on November 29, The Sporting News looks at the stand out players who have taken to the big stage.

Phil Taylor

Phil “The Power” Taylor, widely regarded as the most successful darts player in history, has 14 PDC World Championship titles and over 200 tournament career wins to his name.

After winning his last major title the World Matchplay in 2017, Taylor made his debut SUPER DARTS appearance in 2018.

Despite going in as favourite, fans were shocked when Taylor was narrowly defeated by Japan’s Haruki Muramatsu in the final.Phil Taylor

Mark Webster

Webster, a Welsh darts star and one of the minority left-handed players, is most widely known for his 2008 BDO World Championship win.

He also reached the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship twice (2010 and 2011), beating Phil Taylor in the quarter-finals in 2011. 

Otherwise known as “The Spider”, Webster appeared at SUPER DARTS in 2013, where he was beaten in the quarter-finals.

Paul Lim

Lim, otherwise known as  “The Singapore Slinger”, has had a legendary career that spans over 40 years.

Whilst many remember Lim for his historic nine-darter at the 1990 BDO World Championship — the first-ever in the tournament — he has also made five appearances at SUPER DARTS.

His most successful run at the tournament came in in 2015 when he captured the title, cementing his status as a darts legend.

Lim continues to play and has qualified for the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship at the age of 71.Paul Lim

Colin Lloyd

Lloyd was World No.1 in 2005 after winning back-to-back tournaments at the World Grand Prix and the World Matchplay.

“Jaws” entered the 2013 SUPER DARTS tournament as one of the favourites but despite his winning record, he made an unexpected exit after defeat to American eventual champion Scott Kirchner. 

Despite now being retired from professional darts, Llyod is often spotted as a pundit on Sky Sports coverage of darts in the U.K.
