The Boardroom team note the signing of David Sharp by Unicorn. In some ways this is no surprise due to ‘Razors’ management team at Dunvegan having good relations with Team Unicorn over the years.
However it is slightly different from Unicorn recent pattern of trying to spot new talent rather than waiting for ot to announce itself. Indeed, the rapid signing of new Tour card holders had been something of a Mission darts speciality in recent years.
Razor recently gained a Tour Card in January, qualifying via the Q-School Order of Merit on leg difference.
As well as joining Dunvegan Enterprises, the management stable of a plethora top talent including and fellow Scots Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies, David will know join the ranks of sponsored professionals:
On joining Team Unicorn, he said:
“It means a massive amount to me. To have a company like Unicorn on board and backing me, it’s an honour. To know I’ll never be left wanting for quality equipment is a massive relief.”
As for what darts enthusiasts can expect from a David Sharp dart…
“A torpedo shaped barrel. I quite like a tapered barrel, because I push from the front at the point. I’m quite similar to [Gary] Anderson like that. I push from the point, and the barrel just sits in my fingers.”
Prior to this year, David had never even reached Stage 2 of Q-School, jumping that hurdle at the first attempt.
But, after his first events and first victories in Hildesheim, he’s not letting it get to his head:
“To be honest, I don’t think being on the Pro Tour has fully kicked in. I enjoyed it like a normal open at home. It’s just bigger names that are there – and to be fair, I’ve beaten a few of them over the years!”
Although, that’s not to say there weren’t one or two realisations at the table:
“It is weird to be sitting alongside people like Gary Anderson and Ian White – it almost gives you a wee kick up the backside to say – This is different to before, and it’s time to play properly.
David is back in action, as a sponsored player, in Leicester this week and at the UK Open in Minehead next week.
