Amongst darts aficionados, it is no clandestine revelation that prior to turning professional, Gerwyn
Price’s sporting vocation was Rugby Union – performing at an impressively high semi-professional
level and even earning international recognition with Wales at under-18 level.
Nowadays, of course, The Iceman stands as one of the most decorated and elite arrow-smiths on the
planet, with a PDC World Championship adorning his already illustrious and glittering résumé.

So for globally renowned YouTuber Jake Paul to sensationally suggest he could pivot his attention to
the oche and even embarrass Gerwyn Price is about as far-fetched as once predicting a Neath RFC
hooker would lift the trophy at Alexandra Palace. Yet, as we know, that improbable narrative did
indeed come to fruition.
Price’s ascent to darting prominence is an exceptionally unorthodox one. But for the 29-year-old
influencer from Ohio to emulate anything remotely comparable would require a transformation of
similarly extraordinary magnitude. Yet when the American, aptly nicknamed The Problem Child, first
ventured into the boxing arena, it was met with widespread scepticism and raised eyebrows.

However, as the years have progressed, Jake Paul has accrued a degree of credibility within the
squared circle. In fact, his professional boxing record is far from negligible. If one were to
momentarily disregard the calibre of his opposition – and, in the case of Mike Tyson, the advancing
years – two defeats from fourteen contests is not an entirely unrespectable return.
One of those losses came against Anthony Joshua, with the notion of defeating him arguably as implausible as overcoming Gerwyn Price on the oche.
While Jake Paul has cultivated a self-made global phenomenon, and his brother Logan has ascended
through the ranks of the World Wrestling Entertainment empire, it increasingly appears that very
little sits beyond the ambit of the siblings’ ambitions.
You Tuber Teases Darts Takeover
Teasing the notion of a darts encounter with The Iceman, Paul told Sky Sports: “Yeah I wouldn’t want to embarrass him, but I’m thinking of coming in and just taking over the game. I’m a hunter and I have perfect aim.”
The art of hunting would offer only limited transference when attempting to check out from 501.
Perfect aim, however, would certainly be a prerequisite. For all we know, Paul may be casually
dispatching nine-darters on his practice board at home – though that feels, at best, improbable.

Price, never one to remain reticent in the face of such provocation, responded in typically forthright
fashion, instead entertaining the prospect of a boxing encounter rather than a meeting on the oche:
“He’s a YouTuber, he’s not a fighter, is he? I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. Out cold.
“It would be a waste of money for people to tune in. He’ll never beat me in Wales. Nobody
beats me in Wales.”
Then, referencing legendary Mexican pugilist Canelo Alvarez, Gezzy added: “He’d probably beat
Canelo but he’s not beating me, no.”
Later, however, the Welshman did concede that Paul had reached out in response to his remarks,
quoting him as saying: “Come to Greece, man. Just name a price. I don’t know why he’s in Greece.”
Could we soon witness Gerwyn Price versus Jake Paul inside a boxing ring? Perhaps. The more
plausible scenario, however, would be a meeting on the oche. And in that particular arena, there
would be little ambiguity as to where the smart money would lie.
