Mikko’s Masterclass

Red Dragon Darts

Usually, this section contains at least one fully illustrated practice game for you to play. This issue however is an exception. In a recent conversation, Anders was telling us how he and Mikko had developed GDP and that the initial project was still available on the platform to help players:

The GoDartsPro MasterClass was the reason Mikko Laiho initially contacted me back in 2017 and why we started to work together. He had been working on his own training concept with a group of games and presented it to me as ”the first level-hopping game in darts”.

I really liked the idea and together we developed the new concept of MasterClass for GoDartsPro:

The MasterClass consists of three levels: Competitor, Challenger and Contender and it is targeted towards intermediate to advanced players. Each level consists of different games and the concept is simple yet brilliant.

You need to finish the first game to unlock the next. You’ve got one focus area and one goal.

You will not try to beat your current best score or better your average in any way.

The only task you have in front of you is to try to finish the game.

By having this one focus removes the distraction of comparing your current session with statistics of your previous sessions. Once you manage to finish the game, you will not need to play it again and that’s also why there are no statistics for these games. This might feel painful for all statistical junkies out there, but remember, we’ve not included statistics for a good reason: to keep your focus only on the task in front of you.

For the first level, the Competitor level, you’ve got 8 different games in the list but you can only play the first – the Double Tussle. Next to each game name in the list, you will see a symbol that shows the difficulty level for the game.

Even though it is the first game in the first level, it can be quite tough for beginners. So if you are new to darts you might want to wait with the MasterClass concept until you’ve practiced darts for at least a few months.

Each game will have a main focus area and you will be working on scoring, doubles/trebles, grouping, finishing, switching targets etc. Make sure not to stress through your training session.

If the current game feels a bit tough and you haven’t been able to finish it after some sessions, go back to Game On area and find other games to practise for a few days before you got back to the MasterClass again.

If your current game in MasterClass is about doubles, play some of the many other doubles games on the website for some time. It will keep your hunger and focus once you go back to the MasterClass game later on. You also need to be fully focused and had a good warm-up before you give the MasterClass a try.

Once you finish a level you will unlock the next level and see the new games you now need to finish.

You will recognize some games since some games are the same between the levels. The games in the Challenger and Contender levels will have tougher rules and goals tough. The Challenger level has 13 games and the Contender level has 19 games.

If you’ve been struggling with a game for a few weeks and many sessions you will be rewarded with a fantastic feeling of success and improvement. I’ve had members excitedly texting me about them struggling with one game for months before they finally manage to finish it. This will surely inspire and challenge you to improve.

So make sure to roll up your sleeves and work hard with the MasterClass on GoDartsPro.

And make sure to enjoy your darts and make it count!
