Kai Gotthardt and Steven Johnstone took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One of their respective groups, top, as they look to join Jon Worsley in Saturday’s finale at the Modus Super Series.
Gotthardt, who entered Group C having finished 4th in Group A earlier in the week, took the early lead after completing a clean sweep with five wins from five, as he recorded victories against Joe Croft, Chris Quantock, Jim Mayer, Killian McCormack and Dan Astbury, to sit on a maximum 10 points from 10 thus far.
Elsewhere, Jim Mayer and Joe Croft ended the day 2nd and 3rd respectively on 6 points each, whilst Chris Quantock sits in 4th on 4 points, with Killian McCormack and Dan Astbury sitting 5th and 6th on 2 points each.
In Group B, Steven Johnstone took the early lead after winning three of his four matches, as he recorded victories against Shaun McDonald, Tom Lonsdale and Adam Lipscombe, with his only defeat coming against Shane McGuirk, to sit on 6 points from a possible 8 thus far.
Remarkably the group produced 6 matches that needed a 7th and deciding leg while every other game took 6 legs!
Elsewhere, Shane McGuirk also ended the evening on 6 points, but sits in 2nd behind Johnstone on leg difference, whilst Adam Lipscombe sits in 3rd on 4 points, with Tom Lonsdale and Shaun McDonald sitting 4th and 5th on 2 points each.
The Modus Super Series continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim to join Jon Worsley in Saturday’s finale, with Gotthardt and taking the early lead thus far. Group C will commence from 1pm BST and Group B will commence from 10pm BST.
