Dutch Danny On A Van Trijp to Pompey

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

Danny van Trijp is heading back to Portsmouth for his fourth appearance on the MODUS Super Series stage.

The 28-year-old Dutchman is also no stranger to the PDC stage, having made his World Championship debut in 2023 – where he reached the second round – and claimed his Tour Card off the back of a strong Challenge Tour campaign in 2022.

But after losing that card at the end of 2024, it’s safe to say Danny’s outlook on the darting circuit has had a refresh.

“Weirdly enough, I’ve got more confidence now,” Van Trijp explained.

“When you’ve got a Tour Card, your options are limited. You’re tied to certain events and can’t just pick and choose. Now I’m playing everything – Challenge Tour, ProTour invites, MODUS, ADC – and enjoying my darts again.”

And it’s paying off!

In May, he picked up a Challenge Tour title in Milton Keynes with a 5-2 win over Graham Hall, and currently sits eighth on the WINMAU PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit with eight events remaining.

A top-two finish would see him regain that all-important Tour Card, but Van Trijp isn’t kidding himself.

“It’s going to be tough. The guys ahead of me have a £2,000 cushion, so realistically I need two or three more wins. But it’s possible – and I know I can do it.”

The Netherlands thrower reached the Super Series final in February 2025 before falling to Shane McGuirk, and returned in May to win the International Pairs event alongside Jimmy van Schie.

There’s a chance to hang on to that title very soon when Danny and Jimmy once again team up to represent their nation. With more and more players thriving outside the Tour Card bubble, Van Trijp believes the landscape of pro darts is evolving in the right direction.

“A year without a Tour Card isn’t the end of the world anymore. Between MODUS and ADC, you can earn decent money and stay sharp. It’s not just about survival now – it’s a proper alternative.”

It is indeed – especially when you are flying high on the PDC Challenge Tour and regularly hear your phone ring for a call up ahead of a Players Championship week.

So where’s his game at?

“Better than the last two years. Same with my confidence. Let’s see how far it takes me this week.”

It could be a long stay on England’s south coast for the Dutchman. Win week twelve, he will hang around in Pompey for a crack at the Champions Series title. Then his mate Jimmy van Schie will be popping down and the lads will try and defend their International Pairs crown.

Wouldn’t want that hotel bill. That said, a few titles would certainly take the sting out of it.
