Turner Takes ADC UK & Ireland Classic in Aylesbury

The Amateur Darts Circuit (ADC) held its Vault National Finals in Aylesbury, and with five tournaments to be played at Bradmoor Farm in total, it was a busy weekend in Buckinghamshire.

The first event on the agenda was the UK & Ireland Classic, which featured 32 players that had qualified from a mixture of UK rankings, regional rankings, and qualifying events, and there were several recognisable names in action.

It would be Oxfordshire’s Shane Turner that would prevail to take the trophy and the £3,000 first prize, as he defeated James Welding in the final.

A 91.78 average was enough for Turner to start with a 5-2 win against Jack Wright, and he followed that with a 5-3 success against Darren Johnson to make the quarter finals. There, he found another 5-3 win against Carl Wilson, a man in form in the ADC ranks, and a 101.48 average was the highlight of the day for Turner, as he banked another 5-3 win, this time against reigning WDF Youth World Champion Archie Self. Self had already seen off Winmau Championship Tour winner Graham Hall, and former PDC Tour Card holder Callum Goffin.

Opposing Turner in the final would be St Helens’ Welding, and after taking out the fancied Kurt Parry in round one, he then thrashed defending champion Jordan Matthews 5-1, and edged Sean Holley 5-4 to reach the last four.

Welding would make the final by ousting another favourited player in Tom Sykes, emerging a 5-3 winner as he went from the floor to the big stage to meet Turner.

Turner was superb in taking the trophy, as he averaged 98.76, and won his legs in 13, 17, 14, 14 and 15 darts to put the seal on an impressive win.
